it’s thursday, january 1, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called rohiṇī until about 10 a.m. MST, then mṛgaśira. it is officially 2026, a new year in the west by decree of pope gregory XIII (five-ish centuries ago), who took it upon himself to rectify the julian calendar (which julius caesar had established in 45 BCE) b/c it kept creeping more & more out of whack with the seasons. dontcha just love when power thinks it can play god with nature, with time, try to make one comply with the other, decree when days should be long or short? (don’t get me started!)

that’s just to say that if you’re not feeling new anything, you’re probs not alone, & you don’t have to self-shame or -blame.

but/& that doesn’t mean you can’t make a fresh start today, b/c i consider every day an opportunity to begin again, to better align with the cosmic energy, the rhythms of nature, which is why i write the daily bliss. i mean, let’s face it, the 24/7 push to know & produce can make us feel like sisyphus, pushing that dang boulder uphill, going against the flow & getting nowhere.

taurus is our comfort zone. it’s where we want to put on our fave pj’s, grab a novel (please tell me you read!), a cup of tea & some sweet treats & sink into a couch so deep-seated we can’t get up. it’s where we bask in the abundance of life, feel into the half-fullness (actually the fullness, or, um, more like the overflowingness) of our cup.

rohiṇī is the star of fertility, of great creativity, & brings with it the possibility of inciting jealousy in others b/c of it. so keep your humility hat on. mṛgaśira is the star of searching, our greatest & most deep-seated search being the search for immortality, which is the remembering of our god nature, the experience of no separation, of being one with all.

it’s the thirteenth lunar day (tithi), the thirteenth phase of the waxing moon, until just about 10 a.m. MST, then the fourteenth. the thirteenth tithi removes all shortcomings & increases all good juju. the fourteenth is, like mṛgaśira, related to soma, the elixir of immortality quaffed by the gods. making soma involved intense pressing on stones to extract the juicy juice & then purifying it in extreme heat. guess what we get to intensely press & purify? right: our ego—woo-hoo!—whatever is preventing us from living our highest purpose.

thursday is ruled by jupiter, the guru, the cosmic teacher, who reminds us that, just as every day is an opportunity to begin again, refine our beingness, so everyone & everything is an opportunity to learn & grow.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
