it’s thursday, august 21, & moon is in cancer, in the starspace called puṣya until 12:30-ish MDT, then aśleṣā. cancer vibrates with the frequency of the divine feminine, the most sattvic (i.e., pure) maternal energy, the kind of unconditional love a mother has for her child. that doesn’t mean that dads or a non-birth-mother or adoptive parents can’t feel that, but let’s face it, there is an undeniably special relationship between a woman & the baby she carries in her womb for nine months.
watery cancer, as the fourth sign of the natural zodiac, is associated with our home—the physical space in which we live & being at home in our heart. our mother’s womb was, in fact, our first (watery!) home. water is the element of our emotions, of how we feel, & so here we notice the state of our heart, whether we feel happy or not & ponder what will increase our happiness, our sense of inner peace.
puṣya’s power is the ability to create spiritual energy, aśleṣā’s to neutralize, to paralyze enemies, like a venomous snake. puṣya is ruled by brihaspati, the original priest, guru to all the gods. aśleṣā is ruled by the nagas, divine serpents, who also bring wisdom, but in a more challenging way. puṣya can make us so optimistic, so nonjudgmental (seeing only the best in others), that we ignore the—shall we say?!—snake hiding in the grass. aśleṣā invites us to ask what negative tendencies (situations, emotions, people) we are boa-constrictoring ourselves to, & for what purpose, to ask what lessons they are trying to teach us.
it’s the fourteenth lunar day (tithi), the fourteenth phase of the waning moon, which is ruled by kali, who is def not faint of heart & supports us in courageously destroying, releasing, burning up the last dregs of whatever needs to go so we are the cleanest slate possible, the blankest canvas, the most weed-free garden on which, in which, to create/paint/grow/manifest anew with the new moon.
thursday is ruled by jupiter, the cosmic teacher (guru, aka brihaspati), so thursday is always a good day to honor our teachers, even study with them if possible (as i get to do for the whole day today), & with the new moon tomorrow in the maghā portion of leo, which is connected to our ancestors, we might want to meditate on all the teachers in our life, starting with our parents.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
