it’s thursday, january 22, & moon is in aquarius, in the starspace called pūrvabhādra (which will support moon’s transit tonight into pisces). aquarius is associated with, among other things, innovation & technology. with ever-insatiable rahu, the rebel, the counterculturalist, disruptor of the status quo, in aquarius since last march, we have seen the uncontrollable (out of control?) growth of AI, which some see as a cancer, others as a miracle tool.
(truth be told, i’m more in the former camp, have not gotten friendly with grok, chatgpt, claude or gemini.)
meanwhile, as the fifth dimension once suggested, we are not in the age of aquarius, of harmony & understanding, sympathy & trust abounding. i mean, does it seem like we are?! sorry to break it to you, but the age of aquarius is 500 years away—the lovely darinka recently explained astronomically why in a substack post. (& we are not getting out of kali yuga anytime soon, but that’s another matter entirely.)
pūrvabhādra is ruled by a mysterious deity called aja ekapad, a cosmic form of agni, the fire of spiritual progress. this nakshatra lights a fire under us to do our tapas, our practices, to be disciplined so that we can evolve spiritually. aja ekapad, the one-footed goat, is one of the rudras, fierce aspects of fierce shiva, lord of destruction. this nakshatra’s energy has been called “diabolical” for its ability to either encourage or discourage attachments that don’t serve our spiritual evolution, that tether us more tightly to the material, the earthly.
it’s the fourth lunar day (tithi), the fourth phase of the waxing moon, until about 2 p.m. MST, then the fifth. the fourth supports overcoming obstacles by embracing, not resisting them. the fifth supports us with the fire (!) of creativity & inspiration—we just need to contain that fire, keep it focused on fewer rather than more goals.
FYI: pūrvabhādra + the fourth tithi + thursday is a recipe for nectar—how can you extract the juicy juice this morning? what flavor will it have? not only that but pūrva + the fifth tithi + thursday is a recipe for accomplishment. what do you want to accomplish this afternoon?!
thursday is ruled by jupiter, the cosmic teacher, who gives us the wisdom to perceive the positive forward motion of our life, our abundance.
i remember radhanath swami-ji giving a talk about the four cancers of the mind—complaining, criticizing, comparing, controlling (yikes, not sure if that was the fourth one!)—which make us feel contracted, less than, our lack, the antithesis of our expansiveness, our abundance.
like a cancer, lack can metastasize, spread—ya gotta cut it out before it does & make sure you get the margins as well.
