it’s tuesday, february 10, moon is in scorpio, in the starspace called anurādhā, it’s the ninth phase of the waning moon & mars’ day.
scorpio is the eighth sign of the natural zodiac, which is associated with, among other aspects of life, whatever we have no control over & huge possibility for transformation. let’s face it, the only thing we have control over is how we respond to whatever life throws at us, how we deal with the discomfort of not being able to control anything, ride the 50-foot emotional waves like big wave surfers. the payoff is huge transformation, soul evolution.
these waves that disrupt our peace of mind come in all shapes & sizes, but they all start as ripples, far out at sea, in the deepest, most hidden parts of our psyche. patanjali identified these ripples as the kleshas—ignorance, ego identification, wanting more of what we love, not wanting what we hate, fear of death—which are, he said, the root of all our suffering.
as with all things patanjali, the first word is the most important: if we can crack ignorance, the other four kleshas fall into place.
ignorance is simply (!) thinking that what’s impermanent is permanent—this thought/emotion/situation is going to last forever! taken to its extreme ignorance leads to fear of death—i’m never going to survive this!
sorry to break it to you, but ignorance is not bliss, it’s the opposite of bliss.
anurādhā’s superpower is loyalty, devotion. ruled by mitra, the divine friend, as radha was to krishna, this nakshatra (pie slice of scorpio sky) brings a lesson about whom & what we give our heart to, our energy, our precious faculties of attention, to. we get to make sure our love & loyalty are fully appreciated, not abused/misused.
the ninth lunar day (tithi), the ninth phase of the waning moon, is ruled by the nagas, those creepy-crawly, slithery-slimy creatures who can penetrate the nooks & crannies of our psyche & bring what’s hidden, & what we might prefer to keep hidden, into the light of day. by acknowledging the unacknowledged bits of us—got shame, anyone? got guilt? anger?—we take away the charge, deny our inner demons food. & if we go a little deeper, we just be rewarded with brilliant insights, wisdom.
tuesday is ruled by mars, as is scorpio, giving us double-good courage to do our inner work, to unpack/navigate unpleasant emotions rather than project them onto others, play the blame game. i know you know this, but it bears repeating: when you point one finger at someone else, three point back at you!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
