it’s wednesday, april 10, & moon is in aries, in the starspace called bharani. aries invites us to, as paul gauguin said, “stay firmly in [our] own path & dare. be wild two hours a day!” wild doesn’t mean irresponsible, doesn’t mean being a bull in a china shop or, um, a ram in one, b/c aries’ flaw is just putting his/her/their head down & going for it without thinking of the consequences, making an unintentional mess, hurting feelings.
bharani brings a lesson about bearing the consequences of our actions, course-correcting or making amends if necessary. for example, a few years ago, matthew mcconaughey realized he was doing too much. “i had five proverbial campfires on my desk,” he said—a production company, a music label, a foundation, his acting career, & his family. “what i did was i got rid of two of the campfires”—the production company & the music label. “i was left with the three things that were most important to me. & those three campfires turned into bonfires. i majored in my majors. i got rid of two minors that i was trying to major in. i had been making c’s in everything, but when i got rid of five classes & concentrated on the three i really wanted, I started making a’s.” (from an interview in the daily stoic) do you need to put out some campfires, apologize? are you getting a’s or c’s in what matters?
it’s the third lunar day (tihi), the third phase of the waxing moon, which supports us in being flexible, going with the flow, making adjustments, like, um, course-correcting if need be, douse lamely burning campfires so we can turn our priorities into blazing bonfires.
wednesday is owned by mercury, who gives us discriminating intelligence. in “the journey within,” radhanath swami talks about several forms of intelligence (more on those another time), but concludes that “the capacity to love is innate in all beings & is the purest form of intelligence.”
bonus track: mercury is in that nowhere land between pisces & aries today & we’ve got a saturn-mars conjunction in aquarius, so we might not be thinking with utmost discrimination or circumspection & might get fired up. it’s a good day to put some duct tape over our mouths just in case!
