it’s monday, april 15, & moon is moving into cancer any minute while being supported & transported by the starspace called punarvasu. cancer vibrates with the frequency of the divine feminine, with maternal, unconditional love, love for one & all, love without expecting anything in return. with earth day on the near horizon, we might ponder how mother earth gives & gives & gives to us without expecting anything in return. we get to ask ourselves whether we show her respect, appreciation & gratitude, or take her for granted. do we take as if the earth were mary poppins’s magic carpet bag, ever producing abundance, her resources unlimited? do we think of her as a “giving tree“? do we consider how our choices & actions impact the earth—how much we drive/fly, how resource-dependent the foods we eat are, for example—whether we’re supporting her or undermining her?
punarvasu means “return [punar] of the light [vasu].” the vasus are demigods who embody desirable qualities like goodness, prosperity & strength. this asterism reminds us that these qualities are always within us ready to be reclaimed, that after we go through a dark spell, the light will come out & shine on us again.
it’s the eighth lunar day (tithi), the eighth phase of the waxing moon, which means we’re at the halfway point between new & full moons, when the moon looks like a black & white cookie (ok, maybe only new yorkers or ex ones will get that reference!), half dark & half light. this tithi supports us in accepting both our darkness & our light, allowing the one to balance the other, like night & day, taking the bitter with the sweet, the joy with the sorrow. one definition of yoga is the ability to hold opposites: opposites reveal oneness, & oneness is the goal of yoga. how’s that going?
monday is ruled by the moon, who invites us to find what don juan (you all read “the teachings of don juan” way back when, right?) called our “spot,” our place of power, wisdom & clarity of mind. the external place—in the case of carlos castaneda, it was a place on a wooden floor in his house—allows us to find our inner place/spot, where we can tap into our true knowing, our heart knowing, channel our powers of intuition & insight.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
