it’s thursday, april 27, & moon is in cancer, in the starspace called pushya. cancer vibrates with the frequency of the divine feminine, of bountiful unconditional love, like the love of a mother for her child, the kind of pure, selfless love that gives without expecting anything in return. the flip side of all this gorgeous loving-on is that cancer can have boundary issues—not the kind of boundary issues in which, say (just saying!), a man with a girlfriend flirts & connects like “f” with you b/c he has loose boundaries & doesn’t mention the GF until way late in the game, but the kind of boundary issues that involve overgiving, taking on everyone else’s needs & forgetting about your own.
pushya means “nourisher” & is ruled by brihaspati, the guru, priest & advisor to the gods. like any true guru, he is benevolent, kind & caring. he nourishes us with compassion, generosity, joyfulness & optimism. brihaspati is also the lord of speech, so it’s an especially good day for mantras & prayer, not to mention all spiritual practices, which will bring good karma. this asterism reminds us that what we nourish will grow, expand, so probably best to be mindful about what we nourish & how we do it, to be in alignment with the highest & our highest intention.
it’s the eighth lunar day, the eighth phase of the waxing moon, which is related to the five elements (earth, water, air, fire, ether) & three gunas (tamas, rajas, sattva), aka the building blocks of life (animal, vegetable, mineral). this tithi (lunar phase) is the halfway point in the lunar cycle, when moon is half light, half dark, & represents the balance between light & dark, the interaction or conflict between order & chaos, creation & destruction. can you hold both?
thursday is owned by jupiter, who is known as guru, just like brihaspati. when pushya nakshatra falls on a thursday, which happens a couple of times a year, the combo of thursday & pushya creates the auspicious guru pushya yoga. yoga means “union”—in the case of astrology, the union of different planets or cosmic energies. guru pushya is said to be the birthday of lakshmi, goddess of wealth & abundance. so it’s a double-good day to create more true wealth by doubling-down on studying & aquiring knowledge. from the material angle, it is also said to be the best day to buy gold!
