it’s thursday, april 30, & moon is still surfing the nourishing emotional waters of cancer; it will be in the pushya sky-slice of cancer until early afternoon, then moves into aslesha. cancer is actually ruled by the moon, which is our capacity to feel & connect emotionally to others. so we may be feeling especially sensitive or attuned to others right now. the trick with cancer energy, which can make us empathetic to a fault, is not to get caught up in other people’s drama. we need to be compassionate, but with boundaries. i always remember what the sanskrit goddess manorama would say: take the “d” off “drama” & you get “rama.” save yourself a headache & go with god.

each asterism has a symbol. pushya’s is the teats of a cow. not a big mystery about that symbol of nurturing & nourishment. but the texts like to say that cows give freely of their milk to all beings, & let’s face it, that is so not true. whatever milk goes to other beings is taken from them, often at the expense of their calf, for whom their milk is meant. they are no different from other pregnant mammals who produce milk for their offspring. did your mom have spare milk for the neighbors that she gave away?

aslesha’s symbol is the coiled serpent. serpents can be mysterious & wise; they can represent our shadowy emotions/negative thoughts & our ability to overcome them. aslesha asks us to examine what we are clinging too tightly to, what we are coiled around, & whether it is serving our highest expression of self. it can be soooo hard to let go of our attachments, whether positive or negative—that’s why they’re called attachments.

it’s the eighth phase of the waxing moon, which is related to the eight vasus, the three gunas & five elements that are the building blocks of our life. what we create from them is a reflection of what we value. are your creations, your offerings, in alignment with your values? what can you create today that is?

thursday is ruled by jupiter, which is that part of us that believes in something beyond ourselves, beyond our material existence, or wants to—or not! it’s that part of us that is looking for meaning in our lives (or not!), which we may find in anything from art to religion to children to nature. jupiter is our hopeful nature & he is gazing at the moon today, so we may be feeling more optimistic—yay!
