it’s tuesday, april 4, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace called uttaraphalguni. after the kingly vibe of leo, of our sovereignty, virgo’s vibe is more of the backstage action—of the housekeepers & gardeners & accountants that support our reign. virgo brings us down off our throne & gets us scrubbing floors, reminds us that details matter, that the micro is a reflection of the macro, that keeping our castle in order is the foundation for our power. making dental appointments & balancing checkbooks & decluttering aren’t sexy (except to virgos!), but they are necessary, & once done are done—at least for another month.
uttaraphalguni is (obviously) related to yesterday’s purvaphalguni. there’s the love angle & the deity angle: purva was first ruled by aryaman, then bhaga; uttara first by bhaga, then aryaman. bhaga is the god of delight, aryaman of contracts. do we fall in love first & then make a contract to guarantee our forever delight, or do we make a contract & eventually but inevitably fall in forever love in its aftermath, as often happens in traditional, arranged, indian marriages? either can work, but uttaraphalguni is the asterism of sita & ram’s marriage, & is thus considered the marriage star. sita & ram’s marriage wasn’t arranged—ram fell (shockingly—that wasn’t how kings were supposed to roll in those days!) in love at first sight of sita & earned her hand in marriage, albeit the traditional way, by proving his merit, which is, imo, the way it should be! this asterism reminds us that all of our contracts/agreements should be based on love, on what’s loving for both/all parties, to ensure success. are yours?
it’s the fourteenth lunar day, the fourteenth phase of the waxing moon, which means we are on the precipice of a full moon—it happens late (well, late for me) tomorrow night—& are probably beginning to feel it bigly. the full moon in virgo initiates the second half of the cycle that began two weeks ago with the new moon in pisces, invites us to harmonize surrendering into the mystical with grounding in the practical, & given that it is also (speaking of sita & ram & the ramayana) hanuman jayanti, we will be able to tap into our inner hanuman to give us the courage to make it so. more on all that tomorrow.
tuesday is ruled by mars, who is always ready for a fight & is hanging out in the stormy part of gemini right now. gemini is ruled by mercury, who gives us discriminating intelligence & the ability to communicate. well, with fiery mars in the mix, we will need to, get to, be extra careful about how we use our words lest we use them to incite personal wars. take heed, everyone!
