it’s thursday, april 4, & moon is in capricorn, in the starspace called dhanishtha. capricorn is ruled by stern saturn, who gives us the discipline & perseverance to make sacrifices, or what appear to be sacrifices, in the moment so we can achieve our goals. which see: he puts our butt on our meditation cushion so we can eventually but inevitably achieve greater equanimity, peace of mind, which allows us to be more focused in the present moment & get more sh&t done, be more productive, achieve, fulfill & feel fulfilled.
dhanishtha means “wealthiest.” how does that word resonate with you? what does it resonate within you? “one’s wealth is too often calculated by bank balance & prestige rather than character & contentment,” radhanath swami writes in “the journey within” (which you can read free for 30 days at that link—generosity is one expression of abundance, of wealth!). “we can live fulfilled without many things, but we cannot live well without healthy relationships or peace of mind.” how WELLthy do you feel?
it’s the eleventh lunar day (tithi), the eleventh phase of the waning moon, which supports us in spiritual practices, like meditation & fasting. we spend 95% of our day thinking, our mind chasing one bauble after another, just like a monkey. radhanath swami tells a story about a monkey stealing his mother’s purse during a visit to him in india. she freaked out—passports & money gone! what to do? swami-ji got a banana from a vendor & tossed it up to the monkey, who lunged for the new shiny object & dropped the purse! in meditation we can calm our monkey mind by distracting it with the bauble of a mantra or our breath. in jivamukti yoga the practice is: 1) choose your seat; 2) be still; 3) focus on the breath (which does not mean control the breath). it’s simple. simple does not mean easy, but easy is generally not fulfilling, does not make you feel WELLthy, does it?
thursday is jupiter’s day. jupiter’s sanskrit name is guru. guru is the one who gives us grace & grace comes with/from gratitude. (grace at work is what surely called in the kindness of the saleswoman in the furniture store yesterday who invited me in while i waited for my smoking car to be towed!) “gratitude is heaven itself,” wrote william blake. that’s how we create heaven on earth.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
