it’s tuesday, august 15, & moon is in cancer, in the starspace called ashlesha, which is where we have the new moon overnight tonight. not only that, but it happens in the gandanta zone & moon is conjunct a retrograde venus who is combust the sun! let’s unpack all that, so we can set our new moon intentions, yes?!
cancer is the fourth house of the natural zodiac, the one that begins with aries; it’s the environment of being at peace (or, um, not!) in our heart, of feeling at home in ourselves.
ashlesha means “coiling/clinging” & is ruled by the nagas, the pantheon of the cosmic serpents, who represent both toxicity & transformation.
the gandanta zone is the karmic knot between water signs (in this case cancer) & fire signs (leo), where our emotional/psychic sludge lives. it’s also the most auspicious portion of ashlesha, where you can see the head of the great serpent, the constellation hydra, in the sky.
venus combust the sun means our venus issues, especially but not exclusively relationships, are getting purified by agni, the sacred fire. my lama once said that if you are thinking about it (him/her/them), that means you’ve still got karma to clean up. sigh.
we are invited to shed negative emotional attachments like a snake does its skin, to transform them with wisdom by turning inward & listening deeply to our heart’s truth, being sensitive to our inner vibration like snakes are to outer ones.
this sensitivity invites self-care, true self-care—like self-compassion, self-forgiveness, doing our inner work. it does not mean assuaging the discomfort arising with external pleasures, numbing ourselves with food or sex or alcohol or drugs.
you may want to write a letter or email to an ex to express your gratitude/appreciation & to own your part in the icky karma still at play. you can burn it or send it—up to you!
