it’s friday, august 16, & moon is still in the humanitarian environment of aquarius but has moved into the starspace called shatabhishak, often called 100 physicians. it is an asterism associated with healing, its influence said to benefit both oneself and others. when we heal ourselves, we can then heal others; when we learn how to love ourselves, we can only then truly love others. “physician, heal thyself”?
one way to use astrology is for finding auspicious dates for auspicious events, like, for example, marriage, publishing a novel, surgery. my mom is having surgery today, actually two in one, a double-header. there is nothing elective about the event & she was at the mercy of the two doctors’ schedules aligning, so we didn’t have the luxury of choosing the most auspicious date. a week ago we found out that it would be today or tomorrow—good thing i was already packed & ready to head to l.a.! myriad factors go into ascertaining whether a date will be auspicious or not—& i’m not even going to pretend to have the abilities yet to pick one—but two factors in the equation are the asterism & the day of the week.
for example, saturday is saturn’s day, & he is stern & solitudinous, yet people insist on having weddings on saturday, when monday (the moon’s day) or thursday (jupiter’s day) or friday (venus’s day) would better support the joy & hope & festivity that a marital union wants to call in—saturn is anything but hopeful & is def not a party animal! saturn is also the harbinger of grief & death, so i was relieved when we got venus’s day instead. right now venus is within 1 degree of the sun, which is called cazimi and means, according to barry rosen, an astrologer i follow, that the planet is “in the heart” of the sun, which energizes & brings out that planet’s most positive qualities. i certainly want the day to be juicified by as much positivity as possible, especially by the lord of the day, so i’ll take it, thank you very much.
then, when i pulled the chart for the surgery, i was also relieved that it will take place under the nakshatra shatabhishak—i don’t know about you, but if i were going into surgery, i’d want the shakti of 100 physicians to be filling the OR.
it’s the second lunar day after the full moon, which is connected to lord krishna, the ocean of love, but in the form of narayan, the sustainer of life. what is more sustaining than love? how can you infuse the day with more love?
& that’s your daily bliss. friday is, as i’ve already mentioned, owned by venus, so do enjoy the goodies of venus brought by the cazimi effect today through the 18th—light up your love life or social life, heed your artistic urges, or just indulge in a luxurious bubble bath by candlelight.
