it’s friday, august 19, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called krittika (see yesterday’s post for all the deets) & it’s krishna’s birthday (krishna janmashtami)—jai shri krishna!!!—who was born on the eighth tithi (lunar day/phase) of the waning moon this lunar month a long, long, long, long time ago. krishna came into this world to protect us, as the container of dharma that held us started to weaken & crumble the more kali yuga unfolded. (yes, we are still in kali yoga, dontcha know it!) & he did what he did with joy, with a sense of play, play (leela or krida) meaning that it was a free & joyous act of self-expression, that it had no purpose outside itself; when we express ourselves fully, it is a joyous act, we do it for the sake of doing it; it is an act of creation motivated by love, an expression of love, which is the source of all that is. moon, our consciousness, is exalted in taurus, it feels safe & contained here, free & joyous. this joy is a sense of blissful contentment, of accepting & affirming & enveloping every experience with loving awareness, of loving what is. feel the love! embrace the love! be the love as krishna was!
friday is owned by venus, planet of love, who gives us our capacity to love, which is actually infinite, b/c when we love our love grows, the more we love the more love we have to give. or, as iris murdoch said, “we can only learn to love by loving.” yes, love is a practical skill, like, say, cooking. we don’t learn to cook by reading cookbooks or watching other people cook; we learn by doing, by getting out the pots & pans & knives & cutting boards & making a mess. sure, we can get ideas/inspiration from other people, but until we actually get in the kitchen it’s all theoretical. soooo, how hard have you been working your love muscle? with today being venus’s day & krishna’s birthday—krishna is, after all, love; krishna & love are synonymous—it’s a great good day to flex & stretch our ability to love, to love more deeply & share it more vastly, to encompass more with more love, expand & extend our embrace.
