it’s wednesday, august 23, & moon is moving from libra into scorpio midafternoon while being supported & transported by the starspace called vishakha. the transition from relationshipy libra into emotionally vulnerable scorpio is one from love (or like!) into the discomfort that can arise as a result. we want to feel the good stuff but not so much the not so good, or what we perceive as not so good, as undesirable. “when you say ‘i love you’ what you’re saying is: ‘i am willing to feel my joy, my ecstasy, my happiness AND … my anger, pain, jealousy & despair.’ this takes mad courage, it’s a gladiator sport,” says love coach annie lalla. “that’s why love is not for the faint hearted.” love is & takes everything. scorpio tests our emotional courage.
vishakha is the only asterism ruled by two deities, agni & indra, the priest & the king, & represents a fork in the road (vishakha = “forked” or “two-branched”) between the spiritual & the material. it is also represented by a decorated archway symbolic of the portal bride & groom pass through during a marriage ceremony. we can think of marriage as a goal that is consecrated by both a religious authority (ok, not necessarily!) & the state (ya need a license to get officially married). we can also think about how a truly courageous marriage is grounded in soul connection & practicality. putting it all together, this asterism gives us the power to achieve our goals, &, like a successful marriage, that happens over time.
it’s the seventh lunar day, the seventh phase of the waxing moon, which is ruled by indra, so we get a double-dose of him today. indra was the famous king of the gods infamous for his lack of humility from time to time—he rose & fell & rose & fell as a result. it’s a good day to be humble.
wednesday is ruled by mercury, who is the thinky, analytical, communicative part of us & is going retrograde in fiery leo, sign of our personal power. which means it’s time to turn inward & rethink before we communicate with our actions, to reanalyze our relationship to power, to how we do or do not wield it, & whether we inspire others or dominate them with it. the firepower of leo will help purify our thought process, support insightful “aha!” moments. we’ve got till september 15, so let’s start our mental engines now!
