it’s monday, august 30, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called rohini. taurus vibrates with the frequency of happiness, of being able to be happy for no reason, just b/c we are, not b/c of the stuff in our life. that’s the long goal. stuff is great; being so attached to it that we derive meaning for our lives from it, delude ourselves into thinking it’s the source of happiness, not so much.
rohini is the moon’s favorite place & with moon in this asterism & sun in the sign of leo it’s a very favorite day in the indian calendar: it’s janmashthami, the birthday, or incarnation day, of lord krishna. as shri radhanath swami wrote in his birthday note:
“at the time of [krishna’s] birth, his parents, vasudeva & devaki, were imprisoned by their cruel brother kamsa. it was a time of calamity, uncertainty, & unrest. upon krishna’s birth the dark prison cell became filled with divine radiancy & was suffused with hope & joy. … Dispelling all darkness even in the face of great obstacles [it] illuminated a path of hope for the world.”
krishna appeared by his own sweet will out of mercy for us, sharing his lila with us, delighting in the joy of life with others, showing us how to, so that we would be able to do so as well.
we have all experienced sorrow in the past year & a half, & some hearts have closed to others. may we acknowledge one another’s suffering & keep our hearts open, be as compassionate & merciful as krishna, find joy in our shared humanity. may krishna dispel our darkness & guide our path forward with hope!

monday is the day to feel into the moon’s energy, which is, um, all about feeling. & with moon in its favorite place, we are likely to be feeling hard into our feeling nature, the doors of our hearts are likely to be yawning wide open with the desire to let everyone in—there’s plenty of room for all!
