The rendezvous of these two heavy hitters just may explain how we got into our current global predicament. The question is, Are they going to get us out of it?

I don’t usually write about mundane astrology (FYI: mundane comes from the Latin mundus, “world”; it does not mean “boring”!), but I wanted to jump in & zoom waaaaaay out to provide some perspective on what the heck is going on right now from a cosmic lens, in the hopes of shifting the collective energy from reactive to proactive.

For those of us who aren’t warmongers or billionaires or on the payroll of a multinational company, the world looks pretty bleak right now.

We feel angry, frustrated, scared, sad AF. We wonder where all the light went. It feels like a Bond movie in which Agent 007 has lost his mojo & the villain triumphs. Again, & again, & again.

We want to blame one party, or one person.

What if I told you that it’s not Right or Left, Red or Blue, Labour or Tory, conservative or progressive, this candidate or that? What if I told you that bigger forces are at play? &, no, I’m not referring to the deep state or the secret cabal pulling the strings of world leaders or of everyone on the Epstein (no relation!) blackmail, I mean client, list.

I’m referring to the forces pulling all those strings.

I’m referring to Saturn & Jupiter, the biggest & slowest-moving visible planets in our solar system. Saturn takes 29-ish years to make a circuit of the zodiac, Jupiter 12. Every 20 years, they end up in the same sign at the same time. This is called a conjunction.

(I’m gonna get a little granular, & this is, by necessity, longer than my usual posts, but stay with me—I promise it will be worth it!)

Not only do Saturn & Jupiter rendezvous every 20 years in the same sign, but over a period of 243 years on average, the vast majority of their conjunctions take place in one element—fire, earth, air, water.

&, that, my friends, not who is head of state or which party is in power, seems to define the zeitgeist for that period, according to Edith Hathaway, astro-scholar extraordinaire.*

It’s Element-ary!

In brief: 💨 When the Saturn-Jupiter conjunctions are in AIR, crosscultural exchange is on high, as it was in 332-571 AD, when the Sasanian Empire of Persia spread its influence every which way. 🌊 Christopher Columbus “discovered” America during the last WATER (1425 to 1723) period, when empire/royalty & religion get cozy & are strengthened & expanded through their coziness & ocean voyages. 🔥 The US Declaration of Independence was conceived & signed during the last FIRE period (1723-1921), when, um, nationalism & patriotism are on fire & nation-states break the chains of colonialism. 🏔️ & now we find ourselves smack-dab in the middle of an EARTH period (1921-2199), when security is equated with wealth & resources.

In case you haven’t noticed, the last century has been characterized by business, business, business, including the business of war; the consolidation of resources & wealth, largely in the hands of the rich; authoritarian creep; corporations/special interests acting like tyrants, running roughshod over pesky little obstacles like laws. On the upside, technological innovation has been warp-speeded, so we also got movies, television, personal computers, space travel, the internet, cellphones, etc.

The most recent Saturn-Jupiter conjunction in EARTH was December 21, 2020, in Capricorn. Jupiter is debilitated (powerless) in Capricorn, which is ruled by Saturn, who being in his own sign is thus strong as strong.

In this scenario, Saturn, who represents business & government, oil & gas, crushes Jupiter like rock does paper. Jupiter represents ethics, humanitarian concerns, higher principles & true investigative journalism—not the kind that’s bought & paid for by corporate interests or is a partisan megaphone.

When it comes to making money, accountability & responsibility go out the window. Regulations? Pshaw! Think the February 2023 Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio: What’s a little toxic waste in the bigger scheme of corporate greed? When it comes to coups or wars, governments just make sh%t up (think Gulf of Tonkin, Iraq) & hoodwink the media into doing their bidding &/or circumvent Congress/the Constitution—can you say Iran-Contra? The last time Congress formally declared war, as per the Constitution, was, wait for this, 1942!

In 1980 Saturn & Jupiter were, as they were in 2020, also conjunct in Capricorn: Besides Iran-Contra, we got Reaganomics. How’d that trickling down work out for us 99%’ers? In the 90s, we got bank deregulation: Under Clinton the Glass-Steagall Act was repealed. That, in turn, led to the subprime-mortgage disaster in the 2000s & Bush II bailing out the banks. Then corporations got Citizens United as a bonus.

It’s not one or the other, red or blue, but both/&. There is plenty of blame to go around.

The epitome of EARTH might be, say, the little people with Amazon Prime subscriptions being able to opt for two-day rather than same- or next-day delivery to reduce their carbon footprint while Jeff Bezos’s superyacht emits 1,500 times more greenhouse gases than the average person & produces 7,150 tons of CO2 a year.

Or, cutting $1 trillion from Medicaid while raising the defense budget to a record $1 trillion & bigly & beautifully gifting billionaires even more tax benefits, at a cost of bazillions to the rest of us suckers.

Oh, yes, hypocrisy is exalted during EARTH.

& let’s not forgot how many small business were killed off during the lockdown so the big box stores, online & off, could thrive.

One mo’ thing before I move on: It is thanks to debilitated Jupiter’s influence that the media at large has lost its raison d’être, its soul mission, that the government has been able to co-opt the media to control its message & muzzle those who dare oppose or question it. That business & the media are in bed together, which see: Musk owning X, Bezos owning The Washington Post.

Manipulating/controlling the narrative isn’t new—it goes all the way back to the First World War, when PR pioneer Edward Bernays portrayed false realities as news events, rebranding WWI as “necessary & noble.” He thought propaganda was such a good thing, he even wrote a book called Propaganda.

During the Biden administration, people were deplatformed & demonitized for suggesting that the Covid virus came from a lab, only for a few years to pass before, yeah, whoops, true.

In the Trump administration, anyone exercising their First Amendment rights to free speech by supporting the Palestinian cause can be arrested & even deported, even if they have citizenship. Bye-bye, citizenship! Meanwhile, the admin points a finger at Europe & Brazil for their censorship.

To repeat: Hypocrisy is exalted during EARTH.

So, apparently, is thinking we the people are idiots, that we don’t see what’s going on, which, thanks to all the EARTHian technology we can do very clearly, thank you very much. “They” can try to run, they can spin until they’re dizzy, but they can’t hide.

TikTok wasn’t banned by Congress (its future is in limbo) for the safety of our kids (a low shot). It was banned b/c its voluminous anti-Ukrainian war & anti-Israel content threatened the government’s narrative.

Britain’s Labour Party just charged a member of the rap trio Kneecap with terrorism for daring to display the Palestinian flag during a gig. Imagine charging Bob Dylan with a crime for calling out Vietnam as an unjust war! The French government recently used lawfare (hmmm, sound familiar?) to kneecap far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, so she can’t run for president. During the last presidential election in the US, RFK Jr. faced an uphill battle for ballot access (another example of lawfare) to deplete his campaign funds & ultimately keep him from being a serious third-party contender. & way back in 2016, that other Independent, Bernie Sanders, was shoved to the curb with dirty trix to make sure Hillary Clinton was the frontrunner, which, um, didn’t work out the way “they” hoped it would.

Censorship is an authoritarian move. So is stripping people of citizenship. So is lawfare. So is manipulating the message. The erosion of democracy isn’t new news.

OK, Here We Are. Now What?

According to Edith Hathaway, the midway point in every 20-year rendezvous of Saturn & Jupiter marks a crisis point, which invites resolution, a course correction. At the halfway point, Saturn & Jupiter are exactly opposite each other, staring each other down. We’re looking ahead to 2030 or so. No, the crisis isn’t here just yet—yikes!

I like to think of Saturn & Jupiter’s cycle like the Sun & Moon’s. The New Moon is the conjunction of Sun & Moon, the beginning of the monthly lunar cycle; the Full Moon the halfway point in the cycle, when Sun & Moon are directly opposite each other. Just as the New Moon brings in a certain kind of energy & the Full Moon offers an opportunity to recalibrate how we’ve been engaging with it, so the opposition of Saturn & Jupiter offers an opportunity to course-correct whatever was set in motion by their conjunction.

For example, the current EARTH period began in 1921 with the conjunction of Saturn & Jupiter in Virgo. The stock market crash in 1929 was followed by a Saturn-Jupiter opposition in 1930. The government recalibrated, addressing the crisis with the New Deal.

As I put my software through its paces so I could get my eyes on the opposition in 2030 or so, I couldn’t help being more excited (for our future) by the fact that Saturn, now in Pisces for another two years, would next be in Aries, his sign of debilitation.

Saturn moves into Aries on June 3, 2027, where except for two three-month periods (thanks to retrograde motion) he will remain until April 17, 2030, when he moves into Taurus for his next loooong stay.

There is, in fact, a Saturn-Jupiter opposition on December 19, 1929, with Saturn at 24° Aries & Jupiter at 24° Libra.

Then there’s one on November 30, 2030, with Saturn retrograde at 11° Taurus, Jupiter at 11° Scorpio, & another on July 30, 2031, with Saturn at 25° Taurus, Jupiter retrograde at 25° Scorpio.

It is interesting that the Saturn-Jupiter cycles have, since 1940, coincided with the presidential & midterm elections in the US, but that is also perhaps a red herring in that, IMO, we place too much importance on elections facilitated by a broken system, our hope in the next political savior, rather than in our selves. But, still. …

Will Saturn’s debilitation be a spoiler for the current political mind-set, substantially weaken the powers of corporatocracy & technocracy, big business & big bombs? After his stay in Aries, will Saturn be able to get back up to speed, be a contender, during his series of stare-downs with Jupiter in 2030 & 2031?

I do have some inchoate thoughts about the 2028 election, but I haven’t really dug in yet, & of course it depends on who runs. Not to mention that this article would have to be way longer than it already is (thanks for hanging in!) & that I’m not keen on predictions, b/c predictions deny us agency, take away our ability to work through our karma, collectively & personally.

Honestly, I don’t think we’re going to be able to totally turn this ship around until we get money out of politics, & stop the revolving door between government & industry, government & the media. & I really don’t see how that’s going to happen. Unless a tsunami takes out Washington. & Edith does see the trend toward autocracy continuing for the foreseeable future.

But/&, that doesn’t mean we don’t have influence, that we just have to sit here & take it, roll over, be doormats. We do, after all, the last time I looked, have free will.

No Time for Despair

Osho said, “Be realistic—plan for a miracle.” He didn’t say, hang out & do nothing. He didn’t say twiddle your fingers & just wait, binge-watch Netflix. He said plan, do something. Miracles don’t happen by themselves.

Resistance is all well & fine—there is even data suggesting that all it takes is 3.5% of the population actively protesting to effect social change. Data also suggest that it takes only a committed 25% of the population pushing for change to tip the scales.

Note that there is a difference between pushing against and pushing for.

Being for is a higher frequency that being against. Being against doesn’t offer a solution, being for does. Love is a higher frequency than hate.

In Power vs. Force, Dr. David R. Hawkins, explains that the higher each of us vibrates, the higher we raise the vibration of the world, not incrementally but exponentially.

My invitation to you is to keep your vibration high & to use technology & its information-gathering powers to your advantage, to surf the vast ocean of newspapers-videos-newsletters rather than to just keep swimming in the shallow end of the same chlorinated pool you may have been swimming in. To stay informed & connect with like-minded people. To be vigilant not violent. To be a player not a pawn.

“This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity. No need for silence. No room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language, that is how civilizations heal.”—Tony Morrison

We are all artists, all creators of our life.

May we all create together the life we want to see, be the change we want to see in the world. What’s the best that could happen?

Love & light,
Jaimie

PS: Up next (altho not sure when!): Jupiter & Saturn coming at you. Yes, you! For the next year the planets of karma (Saturn) & dharma (Jupiter) are casting their gaze on Sagittarius. What that special gift means for you depends on your ascendant (rising sign) & which house (which area of life) Sagittarius represents for you. Can’t wait to share that with you!

* I am merely trying to be the messenger & share a drop from the vast ocean that is her inspiring scholarship. Humongous pranams to her for her insights & wisdom; any misinterpretations & mistakes are totally on me & for which I hope she will forgive me. If this teensy-tiny taste of Edith’s work has whetted your appetite for the whole banquet, do please grab In Search of Destiny, in which she puts the Saturn-Jupiter tectonic cycles under a microscope in the first section, & do check out her website.
