it’s thursday, september 11, & moon is in aries, in the starspace called bharaṇī. aries, ruled by mars, gives us the courage to be first, to go where no one has gone before, & go it alone if need be. mars is the general of the army, the great warrior, ready to do battle for just causes, not to go to war just for the sake of power or domination, not purely out of aggression, not b/c, for example, he disagrees with someone else’s opinion, not b/c he believes if you’re not with me, you’re against me.
mars, at his most elevated, knows that “sticks & stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.”
yesterday, charlie kirk, a 31-year-old warrior in his own right, was methodically assassinated while doing what he is known for doing best—having a public, civil conversation with someone whose views are opposed to his. i’m sure i disagree with pretty much all of charlie’s views, but i absolutely believe in his right to hold them & express them, especially in the way he does—without attacking those with whom he disagrees, by graciously engaging in dialogue with them, trying to understand them, find common ground.
just b/c we find certain views hateful does not qualify them as hate speech, which is, in any event, protected by the first amendment.
one definition of yoga is the ability to simultaneously hold opposing/contradictory views.
how did we become so thin-skinned, so weak, so infantilized, so incapable of holding complexity? when are we going to stop demonizing one another?!
bharaṇī has the power to carry away what no longer serves us & is ruled by yama, the god of transformation. this asterism reminds us that our actions have consequences, to beware hurting others, trampling on them when we go where we haven’t gone before, & to make amends, course-correct, if need be.
it’s the fifth lunar day (tithi), the fifth phase of the waning moon, which supports us with creative & inspired energy, & resonates well with thursday, the day of wise jupiter, giving us the ability to accomplish what we mean to, as long as we are clear about what we mean to.
thursday is ruled by jupiter, the counselor in the planetary cabinet, who advised the king or queen before they sent mars off to war. jupiter’s wisdom & ability to see the big picture keeps mars in check. may we all be wise rather than otherwise.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
