it’s wednesday, april 22, moon is in gemini, in the starspace called ārdrā until mid- to late morning, then punarvasu, it’s the sixth phase of the waxing moon until late morning, then the seventh, & it’s mercury’s day. yes, another day of gear-shifting!
the symbol of gemini is an intertwined couple—an archetype of a male holding a club & of a female playing a stringed instrument—representing sacred harmony between opposites, the desire to be in union with another, to connect & communicate, to find wholeness within.
gemini is ruled by intellectually discriminating & logical mercury, who is youthful & can be a bit of a mischief-maker, sexually & otherwise. although he is considered the switzerland of planets & doesn’t take sides, he can play both sides of the fence b/c of his innate curiosity.
the invitation is to be flexible without being indecisive.
ārdrā‘s mantra might be “no pain, no gain” or “no effort, no reward,” for this nakshatra is ruled by rudra, who brings storms & chaos & whose name means “the howler.” if it feels stormy until mid- to late morning, if there are tears rolling down your cheeks, know that punarvasu is coming.
punarvasu brings the return (punar) of the light (vasu), reminds us that the sun always comes out after a storm, that storms always pass. this nakshatra is ruled by aditi, the mother of all the gods (even of brahma, who is the creator of all that is—it’s kind of a chicken & egg bit of cosmic mythology!). aditi means “boundless” & will dry your tears, hold you with infinite maternal love. she fills us with optimism, reminds us that 100% is possible 100% of the time.
the sixth lunar day (tithi) supports us with the passion & fire to make what we envision as durable as a diamond. the seventh tithi supports us with the courage to take our responsibilities seriously & may humble us in the process, bring reminders of any negativity we still get to clear, of where our ego is still getting in our way.
wednesday is ruled by mercury, who, as i mentioned above, is a fun guy, like a court jester, keeps things light, doesn’t take stuff personally. he is, however, in pisces these days, where he is debilitated, meaning his thought processes & their results (communication) aren’t working optimally, where he is mentally impaired.
a perfect example of this is the case of the college student who posted a joke about netanyahu in a whatsapp group (btw: she said “bonbons,” not “bombs,” as the debilitated press is reporting) & is now facing fifteen years in prison! as if her words were a credible threat! what did you say or do as a college student that you regretted later?
why is free speech being criminalized? how come we can joke about, say, putin or keir starmer & not be handcuffed & hauled before a judge? why should any public figure be off limits, any malintentioned war? (&, btw, college professors are being fired for daring to express opposition to the US’s involvement in the war in iran.)
have we become so thin-skinned, so mentally debilitated?!
soooo, beware mental impairment! beware not being able to take a joke! beware muzzling & being muzzled!
bonus track: i shoulda mentioned this the other day, but better late than never: if you smacked down on akshaya tritiya, it’s not one & done, you gotta keep feeding, nourishing, supporting your intention for the next twenty-ish days. if you took a break, not to worry. you got this!
also: i’m on retreat through the weekend, gonna be working on my own blockages, my own inability to take myself more lightly. i’ll catch back up with you on monday.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
