it’s tuesday, july 22, & moon is in gemini, in the starspace called ārdrā. gemini is a dual sign, meaning it is flexible, open to possibilities, can both start & complete what it starts. it is also an air sign, which is associated with trade & connection—commerce, sharing ideas, interacting with others, pursuing desires wherever they lead. as the third sign of the natural zodiac, gemini is about self-effort, self-effort for the purpose of testing & refining our sense of self, our identity: i’m good at soccer, not at cooking (but i’ll do the dishes!); i enjoy math but not painting. gemini invites us to test ourselves, stretch ourselves, just b/c we can, just for the fun of it, to say yes rather than no, to never say never, b/c who knows what you might discover about yourself, what might stick?

i, a passionate skier, remember once saying i’d never telemark, i didn’t want to learn yet one more thing, make that much effort. yet one day i started learning & discovered how much i LOVE it. who knew?! ya never know!

ārdrā means “moist” & is ruled by stormy rudra, who brings transformation, sometimes dramatically, like a thunderstorm brings rain. it also gives us the power to make effort (very third house!), to focus on a goal, to self-sacrifice, like a cloud giving itself up, emptying itself, when it rains. it can also make us soooo focused that we overwork, exhaust ourselves, forget about others & the rest of the world. if that’s how you roll, make sure to take nature or meditation breaks, step away from the screen.

it’s the thirteenth lunar day (tithi), the thirteenth phase of the waning moon, which brings auspiciousness (good juju) & removes shortcomings by deepening our connection to our inner GPS, our ultimate teacher.

tuesday is ruled by mars, planet of courage & discipline.

“discipline comes from the same root as ‘disciple’; one gives oneself up, administers one’s life from the core of one’s being so it may follow a path. discipline is giving yourself rather than expecting things to give themselves to you. … the specific nature of the discipline is not as important as the discipline itself. … ‘the question is not what should i do or how to do it,’ ” said john cage, ” ‘but how one achieves the state of being disciplined—learn true discipline to give oneself up.’ ”—david revill on composer john cage, who developed the composing method of chance elements & was a disciple of arnold schoenberg

what might you give yourself up to today?

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
