it’s thursday, january 8, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace called uttaraphālgunī. whereas leo gives us big vision & the impetus to shine our light far & wide into all corners of our realm, virgo narrows our vision & the blazing light of the sun becomes a high-powered flashlight focused on the actual corners of our realm, its nooks & crannies, where crumbs & dust bunnies hide. virgo invites us to get down off our high horse (or throne!) & bend a knee to the minutiae that supports our sovereignty.

it’s time to clean up our act, get organized: make to-do lists & check items off. keep ourselves & our home in good repair—fix what’s broke, prevent what’s not broke from breaking by staying on top of finances, by making dr’s appointments & going to the gym, by course-correcting if we haven’t been eating as nutritiously as we might, calling the plumber to unleak the sink.

uttaraphālgunī is ruled by aryaman, lord of contracts, & by the sun, who gives us focus, vision & the confidence to choose wisely, to see beyond immediate gratification. the shakti, or special power, of this nakshatra is prosperity through marriage/partnerships, the accumulation of resources. aryaman blesses unions that are mutually beneficial, that have the best interests of all parties in mind. if in pūrvaphālgunī we flirt & date, test the romantic waters, in uttaraphālgunī we are ready to dive in, commit.

do your partnerships feel blessed or not? do they make you feel more resourced, more prosperous or not?

it’s the sixth lunar day (tithi), the sixth phase of the waning moon, which supports us with the ability to take yesterday’s creative efforts to the next level, to make them real as real, as impenetrable, as indestructible as a diamond. this tithi does not, however, resonate well with the combo of jupiter + uttaraphālgunī, so we will have to work harder & smarter to get ‘er done & try not to get discouraged in the process.

thursday is ruled by jupiter, whose sanskrit name is guru, the one who shines a light into the nooks & crannies of our psyche, on our darkness, our ignorance, gives us the wisdom to see the big picture, to see all the goodness in life, to see what is true & what is not.

“vedanta says that within man is all knowledge, even in a child it is so, & it requires only an awakening, & that much is the work of a teacher.”—swami vivekananda

we need a teacher until we don’t need a teacher, until we realize that we are our own teacher. how’s that going?

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
