it’s friday, may 22, moon is in cancer, in the starspace called aśleṣā, it’s the seventh phase of the waxing moon, venus’ day & there’s a gandanta in the forecast!
cancer, as the fourth sign/house of the natural zodiac, is associated with our emotional & physical home—how at home we feel in ourself, how at peace, & with our mother, who gave us our first home … in her body & did or didn’t make us feel emotionally secure, unconditionally loved.
cancer is infused with unconditional love, is prone to love on everyone, sometimes to exhaustion, needs to remember to put her own oxygen mask on first.
aśleṣā is ruled by the nagas, divine serpents whose gaze can pierce the depths, whose intuition yields secrets & who, like all snakes, shed their skin. this nakshatra brings a lesson about piercing our depths, slithering into the nooks & crannies of our psyche where our darkest secrets lie, so we can out truths about who & what (people, emotions, situations) we are attached to (are boa-constrictoring to) & whether they make us feel expansive or contracted.
aśleṣā is potent with transformation, but to transform we have to shed, uncling, release our squeeze on. whom/what do you get to shed?
the seventh lunar day (tithi), the seventh phase of the waxing moon, is ruled by indra, who courageously slew the demon vritra. this tithi gives us indra-like courage & confidence to fulfill our mission, do our dharma. indra also famously learned about humility the hard way. fortunately, we can learn from his mistakes & go about our work with humility, be confident without being big-headed, right?
friday calls in the energy of venus, of IN-joying the pleasures of having an embodied existence, of being spirit in human form. what does that mean for you? what’s your pleasure?
& aśleṣā + seventh tithi + friday = an amrita yoga. amrita was the nectar that gave the gods immortality, brought them into a state of forever bliss. this trifecta blesses whatever we start today with ongoing success, lasting effects.
danger, will robinson! the juncture between water signs (in this case cancer) & fire signs (in this case leo) is called a gandanta. it’s a hard stop between signs—there is no starry support, net in the form of a nakshatra, to ease planets from one sign to the next, which happens this afternoon as moon makes the crossing. a gandanta is the end (anta) of a knot (gand), where we get to (!) untie a bit of karma that’s been knotting us up. don’t tug! the more you tug, the tighter the knot will become. do gently examine whatever arises & know that your mind (your moon) will feel unsupported, so do be kind & compassionate with yourself, unconditionally loving.
