it’s tuesday, december 10, & moon is in the starspace called krittika, which occupies a sky-slice that starts in aries & ends in taurus, but by the time you read this, moon will have moved into the taurus portion, which means, for one thing, that mind will be safe from being aspected by hotheaded mars while being under the influence of a mars-ruled sign, b/c i’ve had enough of flying off the handle for the past two days. was it just me?! taurus energy provides a nice counterpoint to that of aries: aries invited us to exert our individuality & feel our power, while taurus invites us to feel supported, to surrender into the cozy comfort of friends & the good things in life, to feel innerly peaceful rather than outwardly active.
krittika is ruled by agni, the primordial fire deity. fire is purifying & is thus sharp & cutting. agni is the fire into which we make our offerings, the means by which they are carried to their destination, & so agni, the sacred fire, is our connection to god, to the heavenly realms, to higher consciousness. in the yoga practices tapas is how we create heat in our bodies, turn ourselves into fire, into offerings & the means by which we offer. we do tapas to purify our bodies & mind, to bring us closer to god, to a higher state of consciousness. tapas is often translated as austerity, or discipline. it is really anything that challenges us, makes us stretch ourselves (even literally, stretching, say, our hamstrings in asana) in any way, move out of our comfort zone to find a different kind of comfort, a different kind of satisfaction. how can you ignite your fire of purification today? what can you offer into the sacred fire that is you?
it’s the fourteenth phase of the waxing moon, which means the full moon, in taurus, is just a day away, so you may be feeling full to bursting with emotions (or is it just me?). the full moon in taurus will provide a balance to the new moon two weeks ago, providing a balm for the emotional restlessness & intensity unleashed by the scorpio cycle.
tuesday is ruled by mars, who gives us courage but can also make us angry (which see above), so try not to get triggered, or to react impetuously. remember to count to ten before you respond to what may seem like an incendiary word or act.
