it’s thursday, december 15, & moon is in leo, in the starspace called purvaphalguni. leo invites us to feel into the fire in our belly, into what we are passionate about; for our passion, rather than worldly rewards, must be our motivating force, what inspires us, what gives us the conviction & courage to get out of bed every day & rule our realm, wield our power. the highest expression of leo is for our heart’s desire to be our north star, the conduit for our power, what makes us roar.

purvaphalguni is ruled by bhaga, whose name means “delight.” “bhagavan,” a sanskrit name used with reverence for god(s) & godly beings, means “full of delight”—we want our gods to be full of delight, no? this asterism reminds us of the necessity to take a rest from our kingly/queenly/quingly duties & enjoy the merit we’ve accrued by ruling with compassion & generosity, taking our duties seriously. bhaga gifts us with rest & relaxation, enjoyment, pleasure, affection & sex. we get to play today, which i’m going to do by heading to the mountains for some skiing delight. how about you?

it’s the seventh lunar day, the seventh phase of the waning moon, which is ruled by indra & reminds us of our duties & responsibilities. just as indra, the lord of the gods, ruled with self-command & steadiness, until he didn’t, until his ego got the better of him, we are supported in doing the same. & if we don’t, we’ll receive the lessons of surrender & humility just as indra did, get slapped upside the head by life situations. of course, every situation teaches us something, if our eyes & heart & mind are open to learning, evolving.

thursday is ruled by jupiter, whose sanskrit name is guru. the guru is the one who removes darkness (ru = remove, gu = darkness), who lights our way on our journey by connecting us to teachers & teachings. guru comes through grace, not effort; grace comes through doing our practices, by bringing presence to each & every moment so we don’t miss the moment guru arrives.

“if you go looking for a guru & you are not ready to find one, you will not find what you are looking for. on the other hand, when you are ready the guru will be exactly where you are at the appropriate moment.”—baba ram dass
