it’s friday, december 16, & moon is in virgo, in the starspace called uttaraphalguni. in the environment of virgo, we get down off the thrones we were sitting on in leo & start scrubbing floors. virgo vibrates with the frequency of perfection, of making sure all our i’s are dotted & t’s crossed. which is all well & fine, but we can get carried away, become obsessed in the process. we get to remember that perfection is an illusion. as salvador dali said, “have no fear of perfection. you’ll never achieve it.” so we get to do our best & let god do the rest!
uttaraphalguni is ruled by aryaman, the god of contracts & the guardian of sacred laws. uttaraphalguni can be translated as later (uttara) fruits (phalguni) & reminds us that if our contracts are sacred, we will be rewarded with wealth, just as the reward for the sacred contract of marriage is children (or was in vedic times), that all will prosper as a result. so we get to make sure that our agreements with others are mutually beneficial, are based on what’s loving for all parties.
it’s the eighth lunar day, the eighth phase of the waning moon, which is the exact halfway point in the lunar cycle, when moon is equally bright & dark, half shiva & half shakti, the divine masculine & the divine feminine. this tithi (lunar phase) is associated with both the vasus, the eight elemental gods who are the creative forces or building blocks of life, & shiva, the one who destroys what doesn’t serve us, like our ignorance. both are transformative—one material, one spiritual. we can think of the half-light-half-dark moon as a metaphor for the duality of life, a reminder that if we don’t know darkness, embrace our own darkness, our own shadow, we can’t know light. that a solid material foundation allows us to deepen into our spirituality & that a spiritual foundation makes our material existence more gratifying, & that both can bring transformation.
friday is ruled by venus, planet of love. & how interesting that rama & sita were said to be married under the star of uttaraphalguni & that radha & krishna were said to have been born on the eighth lunar day—radha during the waxing cycle, krishna the waning. it’s a great good day to be with our beloveds, to unite opposites through the power of love.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
