it’s thursday, december 17, & moon is in capricorn, in the starspace called shravana. capricorn is ruled by saturn, that serious old wise man who helps us focus by getting rid of distractions, who helps us see what is real & what matters. he’s definitely not the fun guy at the party we want to hang out with all night long, but he has our best interests at heart. he helps us get still, gives us the discipline to stay still—not every moment of the day but long enough to ground us.
speaking of getting still, shravana is the asterism that invites us to get still so we can listen, not just hear but listen—there’s a difference. we can hear without listening. shravana invites us to really listen so we can reap what leonard cohen called the blessings of solitude, which are nuggets of truth, the truth that allows us to create lives worth living. oh, what a world we could create—what art! what beauty! what connection!— if we each harvested those nuggets & planted them, each one a seed in the global garden!
“tilling the ground of our own minds through meditation is how we begin to create a community garden.” — sakyong mipham
it’s the fourth lunar day, the fourth phase of the waxing moon, which means we may feel stymied, may feel like someone threw a wrench into our works, but it also means that we get to overcome that obstacle, whether real or imagined, that we have the power within to rise above, leap over that hurdle, that we get to be the victors of our lives.
jupiter rules thursday. jupiter’s sanskrit name is “guru.” the guru is the one who “ru’s” the “gu,” who dispels the darkness, who rids us of our gu, our gunk, who does the deep-clean on our soul, allows us to see the light, lean into the light. who or what shines a light on your life, gives you hope, provides meaning? which person, which passage of scripture?
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. it is my hope that the daily bliss can help you align with the day’s cosmic energy & find a little more bliss; that it inspires you to enlighten up a little more each day.
