it’s tuesday, december 21, winter solstice is happening at 9 am mountain time, & moon is in cancer, in the starspace called punarvasu until about 10 am mountain time, then pushya. before i go any further, i’ve got to own that i messed up yesterday when i said moon was in cancer—it was still in gemini. whoops! i think i just got too excited about the coming womb energy of the holy nights & cancer being the womb, the matrix of creativity itself, & punarvasu being the returning of the light, which is what solstice represents. good thing i can’t get fired for my mistakes! do please read about all that in yesterday’s post.
meanwhile, the darkest night of the year invites us to turn inward to find our light, to take a timeout from the hustle-bustle of the season & get quiet so we can tap into this fertile moment, into the infinite possibility that is palpable, to find inspiration for the coming year. it’s time to dream! trust! receive! restore! renew! turn off the lights, turn off your devices, light some candles, & seep into the magic dark—channel your inner wizard/witch & cast a spell of love & light over your life!

pushya is ruled by brihaspati, the ur priest, the god of prayer & devotion, & brings the lesson that, just as a mother nourishes her baby with her own milk, what we nourish will grow. prayer doesn’t mean mumbling a few words, no matter how sacred or heartfelt they are. prayer means putting all of our heart & soul into our goal, it means focusing all of our precious faculties of attention on something. if your prayers aren’t being answered, you get to ask yourself how devoted to your goal you are.
it’s the third lunar day, so be flexible.
tuesday is ruled by mars, who, at his best, is the part of us that is a spiritual warrior. with sun in sagittarius lighting up our connection to highest purpose & mercury adding his special sauce of investigative wonder, that’s the energy this solstice is inviting us into: being a fearless vanquisher of our inner foes.
