it’s monday, december 21, & moon is in pisces, in the starspace called purvabhadra until midmorning, then uttarabhadra. but that’s not all, as you all know! it’s the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere (summer in the southern): as of the wee hours of this morning, the sun changed course & our days will now get longer—we have come through the darkest of the dark & the light is coming—woo-hoo! today is also the day of the great conjunction, when jupiter & saturn will be closer than close in the sky in the sign of capricorn. they come together about every 20 years, but have not been this close in about 800.
what does this mean? well, jupiter represents our hope, the vastness of our vision. saturn pretty much represents the opposite, or, rather, wants us to keep it real, contained; he restrains our hopefulness. i know “polarization” is not a new word for anyone who has been alive in 2020, but this conjunction really emphasizes the rift between the haves & the have nots, selfishness & selflessness, the greater good of the one & the greater good of all.
my friend malini iyer, who is an excellent researcher & astrologer, goes into much more detail than i can here & even explains the astronomy (which i could never do) in her latest blog post. (spoiler alert: the age of aquarius is not upon us.)
to counter the debilitation of hopefulness, the collapsing of spirituality in the face of materialism, we just have to be vigilant, be aware of the forces at play & do our work rather than succumb to discouragement & passivity. remember the counterculture rebellion of the 60s? (hey, there are movies you can watch if you weren’t around!) it’s time to dig in, to tune in, not out, to drop in, not out!
the solstice is a good day to get quiet, or maybe not: did you know that the solstice is associated with xmas & that xmas is associated with pagan rituals? it’s a good day to begin to plot & conjure your coming year. i’m using today to begin to prepare for the 13 holy nights practice for that purpose. oh, & do get outside just after sunset & gaze to the west/southwest to see those glorious heavenly bodies coming together!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. it is my hope that the daily bliss can help you align with the day’s cosmic energy & find a little more bliss; that it inspires you to enlighten up a little more each day.
