it’s thursday, december 22, & moon is in scorpio, in the starspace called jyeshtha. i often think of the environment of scorpio as shadowland, for it is in the darkest nooks & crannies of our psyche that our wounded voices, our inner monsters, our negative & negating tendencies play hide & seek & come out to play. best thing to do with scary monsters & super creeps is confront them, start a dialogue with them, which they hate, b/c by facing up to them we take away their power, their superpower to make us crouch, keep us small. think of what happened to the wicked witch when dorothy was bold enough to throw water on her!
jyeshtha means “eldest” & reminds us that being an elder is more a state of mind than a state of age. elders are guides, leaders; like gurus (see more below), they are protective, take responsibility for others, pass down their life wisdom. the key to being elder-minded is to be a leader without being overbearing, without insisting that you know best. we can apply the saying that when the student is ready the guru will come to taking a leadership role: to not give advice unless we are asked for it, until someone is ready to receive it, to share wisdom without shoving it down someone’s throat.
it’s the fifteenth lunar day, the fifteenth phase of the waning moon, which is known as amavasya & brings a new moon in the wee hours overnight. the new moon is an empty moon, & emptiness can be equated with infinite possibility, as we are most receptive, most open-minded, most connected to source, most available to receive wisdom, messages from the divine. (more on the new moon tomorrow!)
thursday is ruled by jupiter, who is our conduit to teachers & gurus, the ones who transmit knowledge to us. there is a difference between teachers & satgurus. “a teacher teaches us, but a satguru reminds us,” says paramahamsa vishwananda. “a teacher needs our heads, our minds & logic, but a satguru seeks only an open heart. transmission of knowledge with a teacher happens through a certain process, but with a satguru it happens instantly. how well we digest the knowledge of the teacher depends on our mental ability. but how well we digest the knowledge of the satguru depends on our openness & inner intensity.” nice confluence with new moon energy!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
