it’s sunday, december 22, & moon is in the starspace called vishakha, which occupies a sky-slice that’s mostly in libra but a little bit in scorpio. moon doesn’t move into the scorpio sliver until late tonight, so we will still be channeling that libra energy all day that we’ve been channeling since late-afternoon friday. if relationships—whether business, social, or romantic—have been on your mind or have been front & center despite what’s on your mind, that’s libra making its presence known. libra wants relationships to be symbiotic—good for all parties. one way to make sure they are is to use your words: if you don’t tell someone how you feel or what you are thinking, they’re not going to know. if you don’t state your needs, they aren’t going to get met—thinking they will is just magical thinking. it’s pretty amazing what can happen when you just use your words. if you don’t believe me, try it!
vishakha is ruled by both indra & agni & its symbol is the potter’s wheel. indra is the king, agni the priest; they represent the material & the spiritual aspects of our lives. we are like lumps of clay being shaped on the potter’s wheel of life by our karma—by our thoughts, words & actions. every day we have agency to reshape that lumpen clay of ourselves—the wheel is always spinning—as we try to find a symbiotic relationship between our material & spiritual existence.
it’s the twelfth phase of the waning moon, which is related to the sun. the sun is our consistent source of power & vision. just as the bhagavad gita tells us that we are never born & never die, sun never really rises & never really sets—it is full-on blazing all the time, even when we’re sleeping. let’s see if we can tap into that eternal light within today to help us clarify our vision.
sunday is the sun’s day & the winter solstice yesterday means that if you live in the northern hemisphere there is going to be an increasing amount of sunlight every day for the next six months—the days are going to get longer while the nights get shorter. as if to underscore that, the jewish festival of lights, hannukkah, starts tonight. hannukkah celebrates the miracle of lamp oil that should have lasted only one night lasting for eight, which meant eight days of light rather than one.
