it’s friday, december 23, & moon is in sagittarius, in the starspace called mula, which is the energy from which the new moon was born overnight. sagittarius vibrates with the masculine, sattvic energy of jupiter, who gives us hope by connecting us to wisdom sources that bring us closer & closer to truth, thus giving us something to believe in, which provides a container of meaning for our lives.

mula means “root,” as in muladhara chakra, our root chakra, our foundation. this new moon literally takes us back to our roots, not just b/c this asterism but also b/c that’s where the cosmic dance between shiva & shakti is poised. shiva is the divine masculine, the sun, the giver of light; shakti, the divine feminine, the moon, the reflector of that light. the moon phases are created as sun & moon move together & apart. when they come together at the end of the lunar cycle, they, like any masc & fem, birth new life, the new moon.

the new moon brings the first inklings of light back into the night sky, just as the solstice, which is said to be the rebirth of the sun, brings the return of the light & hannukah is a celebration of light. & let’s not forget that christmas, which celebrates the birth of christ, a divine light, is around the corner.

“the infinite christ is present in every speck of space as the splendor of ever new wisdom & creative expression,” wrote paramahansa yogananda. our mission is to “learn to worship that sacred universal intelligence in every pure religion, belief, & teaching.”

friday is ruled by venus, planet of earthly love & delight, who is hanging out in sag these days with mercury, planet of discriminating intelligence & communication, both of whom add even more juice to this juicy new moon, which is connected to the pitris, our ancestors, who bless us to see what’s beyond this world. meanwhile, niritti, the ruling deity of mula, blesses us with the power to uproot what doesn’t serve us so we have room to put down roots that do.

with all that cosmic support, can there be a better time to reflect on the root of your beliefs, especially around relationship? what do you want to birth, what do you want to give new life to, this lunar cycle? that’s your moon work!

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
