it’s tuesday, december 24, & moon is in the starspace called jyeshtha, which occupies the last sky-slice of scorpio, so another day of surfing potentially challenging emotional waters. as my teacher sam geppi likes to remind us: the bigger the wave, the farther it takes us. waves are formed through the confluence of earth, moon & sun in the physical world; by body, mind & spirit in the metaphysical. in scorpio we are pulled toward a more spiritual existence but also tugged backward by material pleasures—we want to hang 10, but we also want to hang on, to what we know, what is tangible. so we feel a bit lost, unsure, scared, as if we have paddled out too far in order to catch a bigger wave & realize how big it is as it lifts us up up up.
jyeshtha means “eldest” & is ruled by indra, the king of the gods. like a king, the eldest often has a lot of responsibility, is often a surrogate parent, for better or worse—it’s always nice to have an extra nurturer in the house, but no one likes to be bossed around, especially by a sister or brother, someone more like a peer. the key to embodying our responsibilities is to do so from a place of love, not ego, & love is nothing more & nothing less than being in right relationship with our dharma, with truth.
it’s the fourteenth phase of the waning moon, which means we may be feeling emotionally depleted. interestingly, this lunar day is related to kali, the goddess of destruction, & our new moon & solar eclipse tomorrow will be in mula nakshatra, which is ruled by a super-fierce form of kali. kali likes things messy, helps us get rid of what doesn’t serve, takes no prisoners. so a good time to be ruthless about cleaning out our mental closets! as joseph campbell has said, “the old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.” exfoliation anyone?!
tuesday is owned by mars, who is our inner spiritual warrior. mars gives us the courage & fire power (literally—mars is a hotty!) to fight the good fight, to vanquish our false beliefs about self. today is a good day to assess how that’s working & to redeploy our ammo if necessary.
& that’s your daily bliss! jyotish, vedic astrology, is the science of light. i’d love to help you shine more light on your life but i’m taking a wee break from readings to support my family. stay tuned! ~.~
