it’s wednesday, december 7, & moon is in taurus, in the starspace called rohini, which is where we’ve got a big night in store: a full moon, an occultation of mars, & a chandra mangala yoga!
taurus is moon’s comfort zone, where we feel held, certain, in control. full moon in taurus means the sun is opposite, in scorpio, where the new moon was two weeks ago & which is moon’s discomfort zone, where we feel most untethered, uncertain, out of control. as pema chodron says, “the root of suffering is resisting the certainty that no matter what the circumstances, uncertainty is all we truly have.”
rohini is moon’s favorite place & is ruled by brahma, the creator of the whole freaking universe. this asterism gives us the passion & power to create, to grow our heart’s desire. & mars brings more passion into the mix, forming an auspicious mangala yoga—mangala is mars’ sanskrit name; yoga means “union”—by his tight proximity to the moon, an alignment that supports & inspires courage, enterprise, & moneymaking. yay! oh, yeah, the combo of mars & moon in rohini could also incite jealousy & arguments, so let’s make sure to channel that energy into creating not destroying, yes? awareness is all!
from an astronomical, not astrological, POV, we get the rare-ish event of mars being occulted (eclipsed) by the full moon tonight just after sunset. if you look to the northeast, you’ll be able to see the red planet trailing right behind the moon as moon appears above the horizon. as they rise together in the sky, the distance between them will shrink, until 7:43 p.m. MST, when mars will catch up with moon near moon’s eight o’clock position & then will gradually (well, it’ll take thirty-six whole seconds!) fade, completely disappearing by 7:44 p.m. & staying disappeared for an hour. at 8:48 mars will begin to make his reappearance near moon’s three o’clock position, & less than a minute later will be full-on shining redly once again. & we can see all this with our naked eyes, altho, sure, if you’ve got binoculars or a telescope, have at it!
soooo, our moon work for the waning lunar cycle is to feel safe enough (taurus) to surrender (scorpio), to overcome our fears (scorpio), set boundaries (taurus)—i.e., get comfortable with our discomfort—& be as courageously (mars) creative AF (rohini)! sound like a plan? go!
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
