it’s thursday, december 8, & moon moves from taurus this morning into gemini this afternoon while being supported & transported by the starspace called mrigashira. taurus vibrates with the frequency of steadiness that can sometimes feel like stuckness, gemini with the frequency of flexibility & curiosity that can sometimes make us feel very ADHD. taurus can feel immovable, gemini like being in constant motion. taurus is content, grateful for what we have, gemini not so much. taurus is like a rest stop before we get on the interstate in gemini. rest up this morning, so you are ready to go-go-go, explore-explore-explore this afternoon.

mrigashira is the wandering deer who is half in taurus, half in gemini, straddling both signs, who is gentle & docile (taurean) & also constantly in search of the next best morsel to satisfy (geminian). mrigashira is ruled by the deity soma, the elixir of immortality, the key to enlightenment, which is what we are always searching for, no? (see more below.) this asterism brings a lesson about not becoming obsessed with looking “out there,” in the material world, to satisfy the hunger of the soul.

it’s the first phase of the waning moon, & the moon is still very bright, so we may (!) still be feeling the residue of whatever fullness of emotion was at play yesterday. it’s a good day to get creative about making peace with the polar opposites of trust (taurus) & surrender (scorpio) that gave us that full moon.

thursday is ruled by jupiter, whose sanskrit name is guru. the young dattatreya (who is regarded as an aspect of the trimurti of brahma-vishnu-shiva) achieved self-realization without a formal teacher but by observing nature & treating these observations as his teachers. the first sutra of patanjali’s yoga sutra, atha yoga anushasanam, has been translated by my teacher sharon gannon as, “now this is yoga as i have observed it in the natural world.” the sutras are a roadmap to enlightenment, to the experience of yoga. this sutra tells us that all we have to do to achieve self-realization, which we can do now, right this minute, is bring present-conscious awareness to the world around us, just as dattatreya did. of course, most of us don’t get this—that’s why patanjali goes on for another 194 sutras.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
