it’s sunday, december 8, & moon is in the starspace called ashwini, which occupies the first sky-slice of aries. aries invites us to, wants us to, exert our individuality, step into our power, & mars, which rules this sign, gives us the courage & fire to do so. but mars can also make us too impulsive, too eager to move forward & not mindful enough. so make sure you are not stepping on any toes (or worse)—there’s nothing wrong with reaching the top of the mountain, achieving our goals, but there’s no point in doing so if we don’t have anyone to share the glory with.
ashwini is ruled by the ashwini kumara, who were twin horse deities. the ashwini kumara were the doctors to the gods, & are associated with ayurveda, so there is a lot of healing energy here. they are also said to be the harbingers of the dawn, the ones who cure us of our darkness by bringing the light, & with it insight & inspiration to start anew. horses are also symbols of our desires, of our senses, & of the need to rein them in, control them, lest they control us.
the horse sacrifice was a ritual practiced by kings in vedic times when they wanted to expand their rule, conquer new realms. it’s a bit too much to detail here, but just note that the horse represented the king’s desires & in “sacrificing” them, the king gave it up to the gods, loosened his attachment to the material world, & thus it was a transformative process. similarly, we can sacrifice our own horses in order to transform ourselves. do you control your senses or do they control you? are they running amok or are their reins firmly in your hands? what can you toss into the sacrificial fire today? clue: think food & media consumption & how it is or isn’t serving your highest expression of self!
it’s the twelfth phase of the waxing moon, which is related to the sun, reminding us that when we shine, we give others permission to do so & vice versa.
sunday is the sun’s day, so another reminder to step into our own power, to use our inner light to clarify our vision so we know where we’re going & can thus show others the way as well.
