it’s friday, december 9, & moon is in gemini, in the starspace called ardra. in the environment of mercury-ruled gemini, we want to check out the world around us, make new discoveries, like the explorers of the new world—& hopefully not rape & pillage, exterminate the native peoples & their cultures in the process. (fyi: if you haven’t seen “exterminate all the brutes,” i highly recommend it.) is it any coincidence that already this morning on the brink of dawn i signed up for a new jyotish podcast & did recon for two new courses i want to (& probably will) sign up for? rhetorical question! where are your curiosity & sense of adventure leading you?
ardra is ruled by rudra, destroyer of ignorance. he is described in the rig veda as, among other things, being “fierce like a wild beast” & “mightiest of the mighty.” rudra’s energy is stormy & storms are intense, whether internal or external. but storms also cleanse the air & the sun always comes out again. this asterism reminds us that while fiercely purging ourselves of our own ignorance may not feel so great in the moment, having ourselves a good stormy cry is cathartic & we always feel better afterward, the skies always look brighter.
it’s the second phase of the waning moon, which breathes more life into the spark of inspiration that arose yesterday. the element associated with yesterday’s tithi (lunar phase) was fire, which explains the spark. today’s element is earth, which grounds that inspiration in reality, allows it to safely expand, grow. the quality of today is mangala, which brings auspiciousness & luck to our endeavors. let’s do take advantage of that & of mercury’s desire to share, to spread our message!
friday is ruled by venus, planet of earthly delights, especially but not exclusively love. “love has no buts,” glennon doyle wrote in her courageously vulnerable memoir “untamed.” no, “i love you, but … [fill in the blank].” love means being all in, loving with 100 percent of you, not dipping a toe in, not keeping part of yourself hidden, not loving some parts of the other & not others. love means loving even the flawed bits, the bits you maybe don’t admire so much. we’ve all got them! love means going big or going home.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
