it’s monday, july 13, & it’s amavasya, the last phase of the waning moon, at the completion of which we have a new moon, in gemini, in the starspace called punarvasu.
also in the mix: gemini’s ruling planet, mercury, is retrograde & will be within 2 degrees of sun & moon; exalted jupiter; saturn stationing to go retrograde; & our last kala sarpa yoga of the year.
what’s it all mean?
amavasya is the day of no moon, when moon is dark as dark, devoid of light, invisible, empty. in buddhism emptiness doesn’t mean nothingness but infinite potential. think magic dark, where something is percolating, fermenting that we can’t yet name, visualize.
sun & moon, the divine masc & divine fem, come together, join forces, to support us in birthing something new, to create new life, set a new intention, make what’s invisible visible.
gemini is headquarters for curiosity & communication & ruling planet mercury, now retrograde, is giving us an opportunity to rethink our ideas, our stories, our interests, get a fresh perspective. meR is also combust the sun (i.e., too close for comfort), which can create friction, so best to pause before we speak, listen more & talk less, keep an open, curious mind & beware being critical & judgy.
punarvasu means “the return of the light” & is ruled by aditi, the mother of all that is, who embraces one & all, the good, the bad & the ugly—or what we perceive as good-bad-ugly, b/c she doesn’t judge, doesn’t categorize, label. aditi represents our undivided state of mind, the part that sees sameness not difference, oneness not otherness. she is the limitless power of creativity that nourishes & sustains everything.
exalted jupiter gives us hope, the wisdom to trust that the light is returning, that we don’t have to force it, can’t force it, that sometimes taking a step backward allows us to take two forward. i love this affirmation, which feels especially appropriate:
“i choose to outgrow chasing after & forcing opportunities rather than trusting that the right ones will come to me.”
saturn has come to a standstill (i.e., is stationing), preparing to go retro, on july 26. when a planet stations its energy is concentrated. saturn is in pisces, in the starspace called revatī, which happens to be twenty-two stars away from punarvasu. the twenty-second nakshatra is called vinashaka & has the power of destruction, as in releasing whatever needs to go, shedding outdated parts of us, letting them die, so we can remake ourselves, reinvent ourselves; it brings closure.
& sure, we can give what we’re releasing a nice send-off, a nice burial. rituals are magic & create more magic.
lastly, but not leastly, it’s the last kala sarpa yoga of the year—yay! this configuration happens when all the planets dwell in one half of the zodiac, the half defined by the lunar nodes, rahu & ketu, who are now in aquarius & leo, respectively, thus condensing the planetary energy between those two signs, turning the intensity up to at least 11. which is great for transformation, but can also feel heavy. good to know, yes?
new moons are always times to rest & restore, to reflect. this one invites us to reflect on where we can find new meaning, what will bring a sense of hope & renewal. it asks us to reflect on how we are or are not embracing all that is, all the part of ourselves, whether we are being judgy or critical with others, where the blocks to feeling into our limitless are.
“no matter what challenge you may be facing, you must remember that while the canvas of your life is painted with daily experiences, behaviors, reactions, & emotions, you’re the one controlling the brush. if i had known this at 21, i could have saved myself a lot of heartache & self-doubt. it would have been a revelation to understand that we are all the artists of our own lives—& that we can use as many colors and brushstrokes as we like.”—oprah winfrey
what are the obstacles in your life? (hint: they always come from us!) what story do you want to tell, what intention do you want to set, what picture do you want to paint? what colors do you want to use? every picture tells a story—what story do you want to tell? what skin do you want to shed?
wishing you a most creatively transformative new moon!

the daily bliss is 100% human generated! the act of creation is intrinsic to being human—when we give up our agency to create, we cease, little by little, to be fully human.
may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little (or a lot!) more bliss in your life.
