it’s tuesday, september 30, & moon is in sagittarius, in the starspace called pūrvāṣāḍha. sag is ruled by jupiter, planet of wisdom, expansion & generosity, who gives us a huge rather than a tiny mind, helps us zoom out & see the big picture. jupiter connects us to what endures, what is ever radiating, rather than to what fades, disappears, expires, dies, basically just doesn’t last. thoughts, emotions, the paint finish on your new car, your child’s first day of school, the meal you spent two hours preparing: poof—they’re gone in a blink. even, say, the stillness, taste of the eternal, you cultivated on a meditation retreat (as i did the past week) dissipates as soon as you return to “real life,” as the world around you infiltrates & influences your state of consciousness.
“as society is always in a state of corruption, destroying itself from within, a mind that continues to be influenced by society must also be in a state of corruption or deterioration.”—krishnamurti
with jupiter opposite, in gemini, now, shining his light on moon, may we tap into the eternal rather than the transient.
pūrvāṣāḍha means “early victory” & its mantra is “i can’t lose.” this asterism infuses us with optimism about reaching our goal(s), which, on the plus side, can give us the patience to bide our time & on the minus can make us more excited about the end result than about the process, focussed on having it now & losing interest when we don’t get immediate results.
when you plant a seed in your garden it can take days or weeks before you see the sprout burst through the soil, reveal itself, which has all the while been, invisibly, germinating & putting down a root. what seed would you like to plant today? can you bide your time until it sprouts?
it’s the ninth lunar day (tithi), the ninth phase of the waxing moon, which is, in one tradition, ruled by durga, who was invincible, whose mantra, like purva’s, was “i can’t lose.” in another tradition it is ruled by the nagas, the serpent deities who help us overcome our inner demons, the ones preventing us from reaching our goal, winning.
tuesday is ruled by fiery, assertive mars, who is in libra these days, bringing passion to our relationships, allowing us to assert ourselves. hopefully libra’s ruler, venus, planet of diplomacy, is keeping us from being overly assertive, forgetting about the other person’s needs.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
