it’s tuesday, february 16, & moon is in aries, in the starspace called ashwini.* aries, being the first sign of the zodiac, is where we begin our evolutionary journey, & where we begin again—again & again & again. to begin again, we have to recognize & accept where we are, not where we wish we were. as richard freeman & mary taylor write in “when love comes to light”:

“life’s big questions & inherent elegance are invitations to release preconceptions & wake up day by day along a path of understanding & action—a cycle of learning, unlearning, learning, & letting go again ad infinitum.”

where are you today & how can you use the initiatory energy of aries to begin again, to act, to start over? b/c aries does create an environment in which we want to act. the key is to act skillfully, not charge forward with our heads down without looking where we’re going or acknowledging where we’ve been or where we are in the moment.

the energy of the nakshatra ashwini invites us to make sure we’ve got our senses under control, that we’re holding the reins, that they’re not running helter-skelter in all directions & leading us astray. one way to do that is through pranayama: by balancing our inner winds, we quiet the mind & can make rational choices about what truly serves us.

it’s the fifth lunar day, the fifth phase of the waxing moon, which is connected to healing routines, to taking medicine, which is interesting b/c the ashwini twins were the first ayurvedic practitioners. so a double-good day to take your medicine, in whatever form it may come—getting out in nature, doing pranayama, deleting sugar from your diet—to heal thyself.

tuesday is ruled by mars, the spiritual warrior within each of us. mars brings the fire power to burn up, to torch, the beliefs that aren’t serving us, gives us the courage to let go of them.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. it is my hope that the daily bliss can help you align with the day’s cosmic energy & find a little more bliss; that it inspires you to enlighten up a little more each day.

  • whoops, i was on no-sleep brain yesterday & the nakshatra was revati, not uttarabhadra! but, although the nakshatras do bring a specific energy to our consciousness every day, their wisdom is evergreen—you can apply it any day!
