it’s wednesday, february 1 (happy new month! as a friend of mine used to always say to me), & moon is in gemini, still in the starspace called mrigashira through early afternoon. after what can sometimes feel like sitting-still-ness under the sway of taurus, gemini vibrates with a little restlessness, with the frequency of curiosity, especially, but not necessarily, the intellectual kind. it’s time to get off the literal & metaphorical couch & move, if not physically, then mentally. gemini is ruled by mercury, who gives us discriminating intelligence, the desire & ability to research new subjects, collect & collate data, & then piece the pieces of data together, like the pieces of a puzzle, to create a true picture, tossing aside the pieces that don’t fit, that don’t resonate with truth. but & this is not a heavy project, for mercury is a fun guy & likes to keep things light, playful.
mrigashira is ruled by soma, which is another name for the moon. the word “soma” derives from “sa” (with) + “uma” (tranquillity, resplendence, light). soma was the nectar of immortality, the plant medicine, quaffed by the gods. there have been many speculations as to what plant soma was extracted from, including shrooms & ayahuasca, & we all know shiva partook of a whole lotta ganga! whatever it was, it produced a feeling of ananda (bliss), the state in which the mind is one with the light. mrigashira is the ever-wandering deer (“mriga” = deer), ever in search of soma, of that state of bliss, enlightenment, of somatically (!!!) knowing the true nature of reality, of one’s existence.
it’s the twelfth lunar day, the twelfth phase of the waxing moon, which is said to be the tithi (moon phase) during which mercury was born, so no wonder it is one of the most pleasant & conflict-free days. who couldn’t use a break from conflict (or is it just me?!)?
wednesday is infused with, yes, the spirit of mercury, who clearly has it all going on today, or, um today has it all going on with mercury! so it’s a triple-good day to triple-down on the gifts of the first stone from the sun, including, as i already mentioned, discriminating intelligence, which allows us to separate truth from fiction, the truth of our lives from any fiction we might have been consciously or unconsciously constructing. “one peril in building a delusional world is that you may end up living there,” says martin gurri, a research fellow at george mason university who studies the relationship between politics & global media & recently appeared on an episode of (my hero) russell brand’s “stay free” podcast.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
