it’s wednesday, february 22, & moon is in pisces, in the starspace called uttarabhadra. in the environment of pisces we want to surrender into the mystery of all that is, we begin to realize that we are not a drop in the ocean but the ocean in a drop, as rumi said. the key to that, i think (tell me what you think!), is that, as shri brahmananda sarasvati said, “we cannot have union with the universe without first having union with our own self.” which is to say that it is only by dropping totally in can we feel our vastness, our infinitude. it is not out there, but in here. the self is all, the mystery, the cosmic ocean.

while purvabhadra (see yesterday’s post for more) was related to the fire that provides flashes of insight, uttarabhadra is related to rain, which nourishes those flashes of insight—kind of a mixed analogy, but no, the rain does not put out the fire! this asterism reminds us that inspiration needs to be grounded in practical action steps to become reality, just as plants need to be watered to grow.

it’s the third lunar day, the third phase of the waxing moon. it is said that shiva & parvati were married on this tithi (lunar phase), & so it is considered the best day to take care of family & home. it also supports us in being flexible, being able to think outside the box to find solutions when things don’t go as planned, when friction arises, as it will with different personalities & needs. shiva & parvati’s son kartikeya (aka mars) reminds us of the potential for friction, but also that it takes courage, diplomacy, compromise & understanding to make a relationship work. kartikeya knew a thing or two about how to find impossible solutions—how can you do the same today?

wednesday is ruled by mercury, the ur-communicator—sharer of thoughts & ideas. given that mercury & mars are gazing at each other today, it’s a good day to clear the air with those you may be in conflict with, have disagreements with, try to get to the truth, or a truth that allows you to make peace, find understanding, perhaps make new agreements. & do so diplomatically, gently, like mercury, not aggressively like mars, cause it is, after all, mercury’s day, not mars’.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss. may it inspire you to enlighten up a little more each day.
