it’s friday, february 3, & moon is moving from gemini into cancer this afternoon while being supported & transported by the starspace called punarvasu. while gemini vibrates with the frequency of curiosity, of testing ourselves in new ways, exploring new interests, cancer vibrates with the frequency of which of our explorations lands in our heart, truly resonates with us. gemini is mental, cancer emotional, feeling. under the sway of gemini, we are still defining ourselves in relation to others; under the sway of cancer, the boundary between us & others dissolves through compassion for our sameness. cancer is selflessness incarnate, “all about love. making someone else’s existence just a little easier … nothing else matters,” to quote terence mckenna out of context.
punarvasu means return (punar) of the light (vasu) or becoming the light again & reminds us of the positive transformation that comes by traversing the darkness (of ardra), that the sun always shines after a storm, that darkness (or anything else) doesn’t last forever. ruling deity aditi is the goddess of abundance, the divine mother who gave birth to all the godly beings. her energy is of infinite possibility. do you see darkness as the absence of light or as the infinite potential from which light can shine forth?
it’s the fourteenth lunar day, the fourteenth phase of the waxing moon, which means one more phase before the full moon to go, so we’re feeling full to bursting emotionally, which is exacerbated & will continue to be exacerbated all weekend with the heart-felt-ness of cancerian energy. meanwhile, this tithi is fierce like kali or rudra & supports us in acts of self-sacrifice, as in burning away yet another layer of our ego, our small self. & it is also connected to the energy of the divine mother, who would sacrifice everything into the fire of love. think of the goddess sati’s self-immolation! & don’t be surprised if your ego, like sati’s, doesn’t get purified by the intense heat of life’s tests/challenges.
friday is infused with the spirit of venus, who is the part of us that wants to experience pleasure pleasure pleasure, to in-joy our embodied existence, b/c, after all, our bodies have the ability to do way more than just sit on our meditation cushions, as enjoyable, in its own way, as that can be. who & what fills you with joy?
