it’s thursday, december 11, & moon is in leo, in the starspace called pūrvaphālgunī. leo is the fifth house of the natural zodiac (the one that starts with aries, not with your particular ascendant) & is ruled by the sun, the significator, for everyone, of the self. the fifth house is the house of creative intelligence; the self wants to shine, be great, get some respect. for leo, everything reflects back to the self.
writer-actor-director-professor-activist-leo maya angelou was descended from slaves & rose to great heights, literally (she was six feet tall!) & otherwise, reflected on her own life in her art. her first & perhaps most famous book, the autobiography i know why the caged bird sings, was a reflection on her victimization—from being raped at age seven & becoming mute as a result, from racism—& rising above it, refusing to be diminished, through self-acceptance.
“you may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”—maya angelou
how do you express your creative intelligence? do you accept all of you?
pūrvaphālgunī means “early” (pūrva) “fruits” (phālgunī). its symbol is the front legs of a bed & its shakti (power) is procreation. the fruit of that bed is children, which is also related to the fifth house (for some people, their art is their children). &, yet, that bed has only two legs; it’s just half the story. pūrva is where we delight in someone, test the partnership waters, but it’s not necessarily where we commit—that’s where the back two legs of the bed come in, in uttaraphālgunī. first comes love, then comes marriage, the ripest fruit you might say.
it’s the eighth lunar day (tithi), the eighth phase of the waning moon, which is the halfway point in moon’s journey from, in this case, full to new, bright to dark. it is associated with the goddess tvarita, the protectress of the universe, who ended the cosmic battle between chaos (darkness) & order (brightness), brought them into balance, embraced both. our invitation is to embrace our darkness & our light, make friends with them, with what’s messy & what’s tidy.
fyi: this tithi doesn’t love thursday, so we may feel an uncomfortable tilt toward the bright side or the opposite, feel more destabilized than stabilized, more out of harmony than in. that just means we get to work a little harder!
thursday is ruled by jupiter, who is the cosmic teacher & the cosmic judge, as he gives us the lessons we need to learn to keep us in alignment with divine order, keep us on our soul path.
“justice is what love looks like in public, just like tenderness is what love feels like in private.”—dr. cornel west
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
