it’s wednesday, december 24, & moon is in aquarius, in the starspace called dhaniṣṭā. aquarius vibrates with the frequency of humanity, of our immediate & our global village, & of our humanity, our feeling of connection to & responsibility for our village, the instinct to do something, our bit, to make the world a better place, leave it better than we found it.
once upon a time, my teacher sharon gannon came to stay at my house a few days before i was set to road-trip to lake tahoe to see other teachers (she approved!). i’d cleared & covered the space where i was going to plant my first vegetable garden after moving to colorado from new york & had a few tomato plants ready to go. sharon, gardener extraordinaire, was itching to get her hands into that dirt, but i told her i’d take care of it when i returned.
well, when i returned, i found not just my tomato plants planted, but lots of other green things planted as well! sharon, a consummate improver of all things around her, just couldn’t resist getting her hands dirty.
how are you heeding the call to improve the world around you? are you willing to get your hands dirty? everything counts: giving a few dollars to a stranger, calling congresspeople to give them a piece of your mind. we can’t all be greta thunberg, who was just arrested for being a stand for her vision of improving the world, but we can all do something.
dhaniṣṭā means “wealthiest,” is ruled by the vasus, the eight elemental gods (air, fire, earth, water, ether, sun, moon, stars) who keep us tuned to the rhythm of nature, & is symbolized by a drum, reminding us that prosperity comes from aligning with the forces of nature & dancing to the beat of our own drummer.
it’s the fifth lunar day (tithi), the fifth phase of the waxing moon, which is the birth tithi of saraswati, goddess of education & the arts, including music. this tithi ignites the creative fire in us, but/& can ignite so much creativity that we can’t decide how to best use it, are pulled in many directions, can’t focus on just one project. in some ways that’s a good problem to have, but. …
wednesday is ruled by thinky-talky mercury, so wednesday supports our intellectual curiosity & our powers of communication, investigating & sharing what we discovered or just getting on the phone or sending emails. what’ll it be?
