it’s thursday, february 5, moon is in virgo, moving from the starspace called uttaraphālgunī into hastā midmorning, it’s the fourth then fifth tithi, & it’s jupiter’s day.

virgo‘s answer to leo: get down off your throne & onto your hands & knees, get your hands dirty. vision is all well & fine, but if we don’t pay attention to the details, break down tasks, make lists & check items off, our vision is going to go up in a puff of smoke.

a vision board is a prompt, a reminder; in order to fulfill its promise we have to deconstruct each goal & tackle it bit by bit, incrementally, not just hope & pray, wish upon a star.

as my high school geometry used to say when reviewing our mangled theorems, “wishing won’t make it so.”

uttaraphālgunī invites us to consider/reconsider (see yesterday’s post for more) our commitments & agreements, the partnerships we have created & whether they are producing the richest results, the best outcomes possible.

hastā means “hand” & is ruled by savitur, a solar deity whose name means “first rays of the sun.” can you see the palm of your hand as the sun & your fingers as its rays? if so, can you think of offering whatever you offer into the world as generously as the sun does its light, as open-handedly?

the connection between these two nakshatras? hmmm, perhaps nonattachment: in uttara we are willing to let go of or renegotiate partnerships that are less than; in hastā to not be selfish, curmudgeonly about sharing our gifts with the world.

it’s the fourth lunar day (tithi), the fourth phase of the waning moon, until almost noon MST, then the fifth.

fun fact: the fourth phase of the waning moon creates what’s called a golden angle, an angle of 137.5°, between sun & moon. this is how plants arrange their leaves/petals—not stacked right above or behind each other, but arrayed behind or spiraled up in 137.5° increments so new growth gets the sun & space it needs to grow without obstructing old growth, preventing it from continuing to grow.

imagine going to a movie theater with the seats arranged so everyone can see. this tithi is auspicious for removing/circumventing obstacles, like a 6’4″ dude sitting down right in front of you as soon as the movie starts.

the fifth tithi, speaking of goals, is related to goddess lakshmi, who famously emerged from the milk ocean, took one look at vishnu & knew he was her man. end of story. if we can be single-mindedly focussed, we, too, can achieve our goals. sometimes easier said than done.

thursday is ruled by jupiter, who gives us faith, something to believe in, an overarching paradigm (or vision!) that gives our life meaning, makes sense of it. interestingly, the signs big-picture jupiter rules are opposite those ruled by fact-finding mercury (sag is opposite gemini, pisces opposite virgo), making sure our beliefs are supported by facts, by evidence.

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
