it’s monday, december 29, & moon is in aries, in the starspace called aśvinī. aries, the first sign of the natural zodiac, vibrates with the frequency of new beginnings—birth is our first beginning, our emergence into the world as the unique being we are. once a month under the sway of aries we get to begin again, make another step toward being our uniquest selves, boldly go where we’ve never gone before, take risks. aries invites us to go big or go home. what does playing big mean for you?

aśvinī is ruled by the asvin kumara, twin horse gods whom the rig veda refers to as the lords of speed. in fact this nakshatra has the power to quickly cure, heal, reach a destination. horses represent our prana, our vital life force. our challenge is to yoke those horses, get them moving in tandem, to focus our precious faculties of attention & intention, so we end up where we want to go.

it’s the tenth lunar day (tithi), the tenth phase of the waxing moon, which is related to doing our dharma, to living the purpose we are meant to live, which could be, but isn’t necessarily, a career. it’s the “work” we can’t help doing. the work we’d do even if we weren’t getting paid to do it, even if it didn’t bring us fame. it’s the essence of how we are meant to show up.

“when we do the work for itself alone, our pursuit of a career (or a living or fame or wealth or notoriety) turns into something else, something loftier & nobler, which we may never even have thought about or aspired to at the beginning. it turns into a practice.”—steven pressfield

i have a good friend who is an artist who has been making art consistently for decades, getting up every day at 4 a.m. & going into his studio to paint or draw without a care in the world for fame, b/c he can’t not paint, b/c it is his dharma, b/c it’s his practice. his mantra is, “i paint therefore i am.”

what is that thing in you that you can’t not do? what is your “work”? what is your practice? what is your mantra?

monday is ruled by the moon, planet of love & connection.

“the experience of love is not, as such, an emotion that one person feels towards another; it is the absence of otherness or separation. it is the collapse of self & other.”—rupert spira

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
