it’s wednesday, january 10, & moon is in sagittarius, in the starspace called purvashadha, where the new moon occurs before dawn tomorrow morning. sagittarius vibrates with the frequency of our beliefs & the paradigm they create for our lives. beliefs aren’t facts, they are thoughts. everyone has beliefs—gandhi had beliefs, suicide bombers have beliefs, the israeli government has beliefs, hamas has beliefs, the governments of ukraine & russia have beliefs, republicans & democrats have beliefs, etc., etc. our beliefs do guide our destiny & the new moon (more on that tomorrow) is inviting us to plant the seeds of beliefs that will ensure the destiny we want to manifest.

are your beliefs taking you where you really want to go or are they as outdated as avocado kitchen appliances?
purvashadha means “early victory” & is ruled by apas, a mysterious water goddess, kin perhaps to aphrodite. purvashadha’s mantra might be “i can’t lose,” & apas brings purification & rejuvenation. you know how invincible (ok, maybe slight exaggeration!) you feel after you take a shower, cleansed & purified? this asterism helps us cross the ocean of our limitations, which we can think of as the dirt in our lives, to gain what we seek. what do you seek? what gets to get washed down the drain so you can achieve it?
it’s the fourteenth lunar day (tithi), the fourteenth phase of the waning moon, which is ruled by the goddess jwalamalini, whose name means “garlanded with flames” & suggests the sacrificial fire of purification. yes, a whole lotta purification going on today, which is perfect prep for the new moon. this tithi reminds us that in order to move forward on our path, we have to let stuff, like our ego (!), go & supports us in offering up, burning up, what’s still in our way.
wednesday is ruled by mercury, planet of ideas & communication, who is hanging out in sagittarius & will be adding his special sauce to the new moon mix by giving us some discriminating intelligence with which to unpack our beliefs. meanwhile, wednesday is always a good idea to use our words rather than expecting other people to read our minds, & to use them wisely, to mean what we say & say what we mean.
