it’s monday, january 16, & moon is in libra, in the starspace called vishakha. libra vibrates with the frequency of relationships, relationships that are mutually beneficial, not lopsided, that are conditional, transactional, based on give & take, not giving-giving-giving. in vedic astrology libra is associated with the merchant class, as opposed to in tropical astrology, in which libra is associated with justice. libra is represented in both systems by scales—in the former for weighing the price for the goods being bought & in the latter justice being meted out fairly. given that for the past three years saturn has been transiting in capricorn, the sign of government, & that sun just moved into capricorn, our focus may still be on the injustices in the world wrought by wayward or corrupt governments. whether we are looking at our relationship with our government or our relationships with the people in our lives, we get to do what we can to right the balance, correct inequalities, & know that, as martin luther king jr. said, “we shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
vishakha is the only asterism ruled by two deities, indra & agni, the king & the priest, & reminds us that a moral code is an essential foundation for our actions, allows us to rule with compassion, keeps us humble & focused on our highest purpose.
it’s the tenth lunar day, the tenth phase of the waning moon, which is connected to our vision, to doing our dharma, being in integrity with our highest purpose. given the mlk holiday in the states today, we can take inspiration from his single-pointed focus on his dream, on his unwavering ability to do his dharma, what he was called to do, fulfill his vision.
