it’s wednesday, january 18, & moon is in scorpio, in the starspace called jyeshtha. in the environment of scorpio we can feel challenged to decipher what’s real & what’s not, what’s truth & what’s fiction, as the dark web of our imagination can get carried away with itself, & b/c truth can be, often is, stranger than fiction. if you’re feeling the strangeness, know that, as “x-files” special agent dana scully famously said, “the truth is out there.” truth is more powerful than fiction & always triumphs, magnetizes us to it. the mundaka upanishad says, सत्यमेव जयते, satyam (truth) eva (alone) jayate (triumphs). full translation of the full mantra:
truth alone triumphs; not falsehood.
through truth the divine path is spread out
by which the sages whose desires have been completely fulfilled,
reach to where is that supreme treasure of truth. (3.1.6)
jyeshtha means “eldest” & is ruled by indra, who, as the god of gods, the leader, served as an elder. this asterism reminds us that we are all elders, that we are each responsible for those around us, & to take that responsibility seriously, to take charge when need be, put our feet down when need be, exert discipline & control, be concerned for & protect our loved ones, assert our power without being bossy bosses. &, of course, this applies to our own lives too!
it’s the twelfth lunar day, the twelfth phase of the waning moon, which is ruled by the sun, who shines 24/7, lighting our path, guiding our way on, keeping us focused on the truth, on our vision. if you’ve lost your way, today is a good day to get back on track.
wednesday is ruled by mercury, planet of communication (among other airy activities). after a few weeks of being in retrograde motion, he is, finally, moving forward, which means that we get to, finally, be communication-forward ourselves—speak our truth, express & share what we have been mulling over, externalize what we have been internalizing. with mercury having been & still being in sagittarius, that’s probably been our beliefs about a particular area of our lives, depending on what house sag is for us & which planets have been there by transit or are there in our natal charts. merc in sag is not a one-size-fits-all!
