it’s thursday, january 18, & moon is in aries, in the starspace called ashwini. aries is the first sign of the natural zodiac, which means: here we go again, we get to begin again, start over, from wherever we are. “of course we have made mistakes,” said thich nhat hanh. “of course we have not been very skillful. of course we have made ourselves & the people around us suffer. but that does not prevent us from improving, from transforming, from beginning anew.” aries is the blank canvas on which we get to paint our new vision for something with big, bold strokes. get out your paintbrushes & paints & goooooo!

ashwini is ruled by the ashwin kumara, twin horse gods who are forces of prana, our life force. they give us the power—the horsepower!—to take quick action & achieve what we mean to. they are associated with ayurveda & are said to have supernatural powers to cure any disease or fix any problem. the key is to focus that energy, to focus our prana, not let it run, like wild horses, every which way.

it’s the eighth lunar day (tithi), the eighth phase of the waxing moon, which is ruled by the goddess tvarita, who balances opposing forces—like those of dissolution & creation—& thus becomes the protectress of the universe. this tithi is the halfway point between new & full moons, when moon is half dark & half light, in a state of harmony between opposites. our invitation is to remember that there is no creation without destruction & vice versa, that good doesn’t exist with evil, night without day, etc. our invitation is to embrace the polarities within us & between one another, see them as mutually inclusive, rather than exclusive.

thursday is ruled by jupiter, who gives our life meaning by connecting us to wisdom sources. wisdom sources can be people, like teachers (who come in all forms, shapes & sizes—from our kiddos to our grandparents, from our next-door neighbor to our lama), or scripture/holy books. they can even be movies, as my lama used to say. which is to say that the opportunities to perceive & receive wisdom abound as long as we want to learn, evolve. who or what gives your life meaning? how do you receive wisdom?

& that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. may it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
