it’s monday, january 18, & moon is in pisces, in the starspace called uttarabhadra. pisces is represented by two fish joined head to tail & tail to head, a symbol of cosmic unity. it is where we dream what may seem like an impossible dream, the experience of the individual self merging into the ocean of all individual selves, of all becoming one, or, rather, knowing we are one.
jupiter, who rules pisces, gives us the hope & optimism to believe our dreams can come true. of course, not all dreams are sattvic, have everyone’s best interest at heart. some people dream of accruing wealth & power to serve their ego & wreak whatever destruction necessary to achieve it. martin luther king jr., dreamed of creating “a society at peace with itself, a society that can live with its conscience.” his dreamwork was left unfinished by his assassination—may we honor his legacy by destroying ignorance & what he called “conscientious stupidity.”
uttarabhadra is connected to the deep sleep state, where we tap into our unconsciousness, the nooks & crannies of our psychology, & the wisdom to be found there. did anyone else travel vast distances in their dreams last night, awake as if reborn, as if having arisen from a mini death, as we do when we unfurl from savasana, “corpse pose,” the finale of our asana practice? we are the mystery & the mystery reveals who we are … if we care to know & indulge our curiosity.
it’s the sixth phase of the waxing moon, which makes it a good day to celebrate your victories, every step forward. as mlk said, “if you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” all movement, in whatever increment, counts!
monday is ruled by the moon, which is our intuitive essence, our knowing by feeling. it is surely no coincidence that soma is the moon deity & that somatics tells us that we hold knowledge in our bodies, that they are a repository of our emotional history, our emotional intelligence, of what we know to be true for ourselves.
& that’s your daily bliss! which is a kind of lunar weather report. it is my hope that the daily bliss can help you align with the day’s cosmic energy & find a little more bliss; that it inspires you to enlighten up a little more each day.
